    Hey fellas...

I'm looking for help because i seriously need to loose weight. forget looks, forget anything else, my health is at risk.

i am ashamed to say this, i really am but at 5'9 i weigh 293. :scaredas:

i weighed about 230 before which was still very heavy, but i didn't really feel uncomfortable. now i really feel the effects of the weight and it honestly scares me.

can you guys suggest a work out routine, considering how heavy I am currently and that some workouts because of my weight may be too difficult to perform at the time.

Also, what diets do you suggest?

I am thinking maybe I can go to bazooka's gym and get work out there, but i am not sure if it be a better idea to loose some of the weight first before going?

Thanks in advance, and i really can use the help.

You should start small and work up to going into a gym. Begin by cutting back on your calories. Basically, eat healthy. I think by this point everyone knows what eating healthy is so I won't go into that.

Begin by walking every day for at least a half hour-45 mins. Keep it as brisk as you can. Begin working up to jogging for a bit then walking until you can jog an entire mile. Then just keep adding on from there. Walk, jog, walk, jog up to two miles. Do you have access to an exercise bike? Maybe add in a good 20-30 minutes of that a day as well.

Just remember to set small goals to keep your motivation. If cutting back on junk food and soda and what not and walking every day is all you can do right now, then great. As long as you make it something you can stick with and move forward with you'll do fine.

Good luck and good for you for making the decision to change your health. I hope it works out for you.

    Eat small meals frequently.

As for what to eat, just basic and reasonable healthy stuff. Vegetables, fruit, salads, grilled chicken, fish.

Exercising...well, any kind should be good. Start out light with jogging and work your way up.

    Drink lots of water.

There's 2 posts full of good advice, follow what Amy and Erratic said and you'll be well on track bud. If you have the room, you could get an elliptical trainer or a treadmill for your house. I know a lot of overweight people are body conscious and don't want people watching them exercise, which immediately exludes great weight-loss activities such as swimming. If you're not overly conscious, all the better! Get down to the gym a few times a week, and just take it easy at first. Like Amy said, a brisk 45 minute walk every day would be great, and most importantly of all, start eating better. Good luck with it though mate, let us know how it goes.

Thanks guys and gals, I really appreciate it. I think at this point, I can care less about being self conscious and have to worry about my health. I think i'll try out the elliptical and swimming because it'll be a little bit easier on the knees. Thanks so much

I lost a lot of weight biking around my neighborhood. Just a thought if you got one. Good luck.

Yeah that's why I mentioned them, there's minimal impact on any joints. The last thing you need during a weight-loss regime is a setback due to an injury, and then finding that you've put the weight back on. Also, (I don't know you're situation at all so this may not be possible) but if you got yourself a dog you'd find that you have to go for that walk every day. Whereas you might not bother otherwise, especially if it's pissing down outside or you've got other things to do.

I think one of the best tricks to a good diet is to eat healthy 6 days and have one "cheat day a week" where you can have anything you want. trust me you want to lose weight and KEEP it off. i think it's 90% of people who go on diets go back to the same weight 4 months later. it's ok to give in to your cravings BUT just oonce a week. As for the other day;s of the week try and keep your food simple.
You shold feel very happy right now your on your way to a better and healther you! (WOW that sounded like it was right out of an infomercial!)
And anytime you feel unmotivated (which you will) just tell us, we'll sort you out.
    Keep Us posted champ!

Nothing beats loseing weight than running. And make sure you wear something warm when you run so you would sweat more. It makes me sick to see fat people running with a t-shirt and short pants.. You should run with warm clothes. And also don't eat a lot. No more pizzas ;)

    Rakim's a fat ginger ****, **** that joker.

Something else you can do, my pudgy compadre - Try and go for a brisk walk before breakfast, with a strong cup of black coffee.
Try to avoid carbohydrates before sleepy time, as well.

Southpaw_Swarmer - I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree there, gangster. I don't think homeboy here should have a whole cheat day every 7. Say he has 5 meals a day (small balanced meals!), that's 35 a week. I'm sure 2-3 over a couple of days can satisfy his soon-to-be-dead cravings for crazy-**** food.

Also, don't go to bazooka's gym, for two reasons.
First, Charlie Zelenoff called the guy out, there could be some mad dissin' goin' down, yo.
Second, I don't think you'd be able to keep up with anyone there, so you'd get a bit disheartened.

Undoubtedly the best decision you've made in recent times is to lose that weight, pal, so kudos and all those other encouraging things people throw at you at times like this.

    :thumbsup

I thought that when you ran with warm clothes, it just made you sweat more, so all that extra weight you're losing is just water. This will then be replenished as soon as you have a drink anyway. :huh
