If any of these below fights take place they should be at the right weight not catchweight ****ing fights Please tell me if you agree or disagree because I like to see 2 real men on top of their game coming in at 100% not weight drained weak fighters. Mayweather vs Pacquiao 140lbs or 147lbs because Mayweather I suspect can get his ass down to 140 and as he likes to fight guys smaller he should move his ass down to make this fight. Alot of people will say, well if Cotto and Mosley can fight Pac at 147lbs then why not Mayweather. Simple. Mayweather can make 140lbs, that is what I truly believe because he was never struggling to make 140lbs, he just moved up to take big money fights but if Pac wants to be great then he should take it at 147lbs so it leaves no questions unanswered and more for him to gain out of a victory Mosley vs Pacquiao 147lbs, Mosley cannot make 140lbs Cotto vs Pacquiao Same as above 147lbs, Come on Pacquiao, if you are supposed to be pound for pound then do pound for pound type things instead of making big name fighters drain themselves to fight you I will be all in favour of a fair catchweight but not a bull**** catchweight so that is my reasoning for catchweights in general but I would prefer to not see any catchweight affairs unless they are suiting both fighters. I personally think that Pac should clean up 140 instead of messing with welterweights but to these guys its all about big money fights and getting in and getting out before Manny starts to decline. Thoughts???
I ****ing hate them. Malignaggi-Diaz is ****in stupid. 138.5 jesus christ they would probably weigh that a the ****in weigh if it was a 140. Its not like Diaz is doing pacman jumps in weight, its only one ****in division against a fighter that wouldnt break an egg.
I don't see the problem with catchweights at all, if both fighters agree on it. Hopkins-Wright, Pavlik-Taylor II, etc. I don't see any problem with it.
I don't mind catchweight fights in principle, but splitting hairs over 1lb is stupid. Some clown said yesterday that Mayweather would beat Pac at 146, but would lose at 145! So Floyd chooses to have a **** after the weigh in and loses the fight?
pac has already fought through 10 weight divisions from 108 to 147 in his career. i'll say that's definitely doing pound for pound things. and remember, pac hasn't fought at a catchweight yet. so, what's with your "please no more catchweight fights"? :huh
There's nothing new about catchweight fights, mate. I'll make this point, had we not had catchweights then we would have been robbed of seeing two of last years best and most suprising fights: Pacman V ODLH; Pavlik V B-Hop. Would you rather have not seen those fights? Also, you have to concede that Pacquiao is now fighting way above where he started out- I think in all honesty he's earned his catchweight fights after what he's achieved. Long may catchweights continue, IMO.
WTF, how many of Pac's fights has been on a catchweight? NONE, why are you bitching for just one catchweight fight against top welters?
continued... I know Pacman V ODLH was not technically a catchweight but you do get my point. Both fighting @ welterweight was a good as a catchweight.
Pac was mving 2 divisions up, Oscar was dropping just 3 pounds(his last fight was at a 150 catchweight). So fighting Oscar at welterweight was completely fair.
hmm... pac-dlh happened at the welter limit of 147 so i don't think that could be considered as a catchweight fight. pac went up two weight classes from 135 while dlh went down 1 from 154. it would've been grossly unfair for pac go up 3 weight classes to fight dlh at his natural weight of 154. so, the fight happening at welter was but fair to both parties involved. ppl also tend to forget that dlh fought forbes at a catchweight of 150 before the pacquiao fight.
Hang on, mate- I never said it was unfair. I was just responding to the title of the thread. I am argueing that catchweights are very fair indeed. Read my previous comment and you'll see.
Some catchweights are unfair take Jones-Trinidad. Tito began at 147 and fought at 170 against Jones. I thought there was a big difference in size on fightnight
I don't really mind as long as it's done to try to "even things out" rather than simply drain a guy where he's going to be dead @ the weight. It does seem to take a bit out of the historic sense when a welterweight title bout is at 145 lbs, but still, I'll take that over no fight at all. Some big fights, memorable ones, have been at catchweights: Whitaker-Chavez, Leonard-Hearns 2, Pacquiao-DLH (technically it was at 147 a traditional division but you know what I mean), Hopkins-Pavlik, Ayala-Tapia 2, etc..
