An old, cantankerous, defrocked Jack Dempsey pulls victory from the jaws of defeat by taking advantage of a typically unfocused, unringwise Sharkey by capitalizing on a big mistake that a seasoned fighter should never make. So he hit him in the balls and ko'ed him when he turned to ***** at the referee. If Duran had done the same thing you would all be singing his praises as a "G" who you just don't **** with...who does "what a man has to do" to pull out a victory at any expense.

Here's the KO only. Everyone will have to decide. Was the left hook sufficient to knockout Sharkey? I don't think so. Again, body-anguage is all wrong, I think he was trying for a DQ. Not that I think he was beat up or anything, but no fight went by in Sharkey's career without a bit of controversey.

All things considered, its a strong 7, maybe an 8.

Its a ko victory over tunneys successor in a come from behind fashion.

The low blow sullied it very slightly in my opinion but **** happens in boxing and Sharkey didn't protect himself well.

If Sharkey would have gone on to be a great champion id have scored it a ten.

Thanks for putting this very good Blackhawk film up.

I just didn't see the "blatant" fouls everyone else seems to have seen. At most the rights seemed to be at about the belt line. I might be built different than others, but my balls aren't at my beltline.

I think what happened is that Sharkey landed on his ***** when he pitched forward onto the canvas.

Tough to say as he was complaining but really didn't seem in dire difficulty from the belly punches and did not seem at all in trouble until he caught that left hook.

I give Dempsey a 9 of 10 for this one. An impressive win.

Yes, and I am getting on and my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but it is supposed to be 20/20 with my glasses on and I'm just going by what I see.

Again, if it were a darling of the forum, like Duran, winning in the same way vs a similarly skilled fighter like Sharkey, at the same stage of his career, there would be unanimous approval. But since we're talking about the ESB hated Dempsey, tyhere has to be a poll debating this fight.

I go a 6 for this same reasoning.

Jack Dempsey escaped Jack Sharkey, and he needed fouls to do it. That taints a very, very good win. The scalp is too nice to merit a 5, but the method doesn't quite get me to 7.

No one has mentioned that up to the KO ending, Sharkey was the one doing the fouling. The Gob couldn't take his medicine. Dempsey won the scrap by ad******g to the kind of fight that was being fought.

yes thank you very much, nobody talks about how Sharkey took a very cheap shot to Dempsey's jaw well after the bell at the end of the round just before he got knocked out

too much Skarkey apologists for my liking, what comes around goes around

I also wonder how people can score the fight in one-sided fashion in favor of Sharkey, it's an inside fight for the most part and the poor quality of the footage makes it hard to see what is landing clean, head or body

there is no indication that Sharkey would have won that fight had there been no low blow-hook to the jaw combo

No more than a 7 in my estimation. I think I'll go 6 like Magna.

Yeah, I think there were some low blows but I can't see any that are bang-in-the-nuts low direct hits. Sharkey decided he was hit by an incapacitating low blow only after Dempsey dropped him with the left to the head. Ringsiders were split on whether Sharkey had been fouled or not.
