I am conducting research into the representation of boxers in the media from outside there own countries. for example how does the media in britain portray american boxers and vice versa. i need as much data from you all as possible no matter what country you are from! state what country you are from Do "foreign" boxers get as much media coverage in your country as home fighters? which type of media is harshest on foreign boxers? eg, magazines, newspapers, radio, television does the media in the your county favour home fighters? why do you think this ? why do you think british fighters gain negative press in the media in the usa or other countries? do you think american media coverage sways peoples opinions ? thanks in advance people!
why are you doing this research? esb isn't a repected reference to use for qualitative research, look at news papers or magazines instead. if it is quantitative research you are after and you want to use esb for volume, then construct a poll. sorry for being a geek, i'm a third year undergraduate degree student so i'm currently referencing stuff and looking at research myself! (not boxing related).
its media coursework at A2 level I have researched and done textual analysis on many magazines newspapars, and have also referenced academic books. however i also need to gain the opinion of the general public and boxing fans on the above matters polls are to vague and will not give me exact answers and one word answers are not enough for this
state what country you are from: Ireland Do "foreign" boxers get as much media coverage in your country as home fighters? No theres alot more coverage of fighters from the Uk and Ireland. The only time you see fights from the U.S is on setanta or the odd time on sky or eurosport. Even in the newspaper it has to be big news overseas to make it into any daily paper unless it contains a uk or irish fighter. which type of media is harshest on foreign boxers? eg, magazines, newspapers, radio, television Radio they don't really do there research on boxers before they speak and some make useless statements on fighters. does the media in the your county favour home fighters? why do you think this ? Of course it does. Its' the same in all countrys i presume. why do you think british fighters gain negative press in the media in the usa or other countries? Well most fighters that travel to anywhere are under looked and the likes of Gary Lockett doesnt help change peoples opinion do you think american media coverage sways peoples opinions ? Yeah they used to but now i have seen alot of fighters get hyped only to get beat by sub standerd fighter like aaron williams
ahh, I did media at a2 level too. you should get a good grade for referencing academic books, i didn't bother referencing until uni and i got a B. again, i am unsure about using what we say in your coursework... but here's my 2 pence. Foreign especially american boxers are put on a pedestool by the uk media, especially mainstream media who target the casual fans. we often hear about the "well known american champion". look for uk media articals telling the public who paulie malignaggi or jeff lacey were before we knew them. paulie the brash flashy fast handed american etc. you could look at hatton being called the "british knock-out artist" and the british bulldog persona too. khan even tried to tell us that breidis prescott was well known in america, exploiting the lack of knowledge on world wide boxing of the casual UK fan.
I conducted research about boxers and their chins. 3 subjects: * one eats a lot of bubble gum for a month * one makes himself dizzy by spinning around in circles and then sparring to monitor body contol * one takes constant punches to the chin to make him get used to it After a month I punched each of them on the chin. the bubble gum man survived!!!
something important for you: I'm from the UK and I've realised that in the UK we never hardly get to see fighters that are under super feather weight. ESB are always talking about vic darchinian and donaire and mijaes but I have never seen any of them fight. I have all the sport channels, the only tym I am likely to see them fight is on a big under card. No friday night fights or anything like that.
Country: USA Media gives pretty good coverage to foreign fighters but it'd be hard not to with the way the top 10 p4p look They definitely favor US fighters but I doubt its much worse than any other country would not all british fighters get bad media coverage in the us but there is a lot of criticism b/c like it or not the US is where the best fighters fight. People who don't leave Europe will naturally not get as much respect. Thats especially true the lower down in weight you go. American media doesnt sway too much hbo definitely does.
state what country you are from: Poland boxing broadcast: next to none I guess. However, it is getting better. From time to time when there is a major fight in the US our channels do televise it, but no chance when it comes to bouts of lesser importance, these I have to watch online.
country: USA TV coverage is poor for foreign fighters, unless there fighting for a major belt. The press coverage for boxing is non-exsistant anymore. Online is the only way to stay up to date on foreign affairs. As far as bias goes its pretty poor but thats mostly because of lack of coverage.
State what country you are from: Philippines Do "foreign" boxers get as much media coverage in your country as home fighters? *Yes, plenty, but we hardly see our own. Does the media in the your county favour home fighters? Why do you think this? *Of course. If you don't love your own you are objective but an idiot. Why do you think british fighters gain negative press in the media in the USA or other countries? *Not here and most probably not in other countries just the US, and there are plenty of obvious reasons. Do you think American media coverage sways peoples opinions? *It will sway a casual fan's opinion.
