Very nice man. I knew him a little back when I was boxing amateur out of Tacoma. He was still there and driving a dump truck for a living, which he loved. He was trying to embark on what turned out to be an aborted comeback in 1986. I was impressed by the fact that this ex-world champ would take the time to help a no-hoper like me with my handwraps. That was awesome. Very fond memories. I've only ever seen two fights of his on youtube, one of which seems to be gone now, the Cardona victory. He showed such a hard, almost Quartey-like jab that night, despite being so short. Cardona was more exhausted than anything, but a great win for Leo, in his hometown, no less. Then I saw him get bounced by Palma. Ouch.
Damn i haven't heard the name Leo Randolph, in a very long time, im assuming he's still alive? I remember watching the 76 Olympics as a 9 year old , watching both him and Leonard, fight and win the medals, damn that was like another lifetime ago.. I wonder if Leo knows Joe Hipp, heavyweight in the 90"s best known for breaking Tommy Morrisons jaw, i believe Hipp is from Seattle..
I saw on boxrec that he's been driving a bus in Seattle since 2007, not much other info on him though.
Didn't Leo get upset early on? Probably got out at the right time, though a Jeff Chandler matchup would've made a good deal of money, even Derrick Holmes or Mike Ayala.
What I remember about Leo was a very balanced boxer. Often he didn't seem very fast or explosive but he always kept the basics by the book and that great balance.
