Please tell me why posters think"homecourt advantage"makes you a better boxer

It's a matter of comfort, for one. It's a lot more comfortable to stay at home, train, not travel, not feeling out of place, ect... you can really just focus on your training. Second, the crowd can help move you and keep him going. Third, on the other ends it can be hard to deal with a hostile crowd in somebody elses hometown. Your hometown crowd can also influence the judges as they cheer for everything that you do.

There are numerous factors. I will say though... that some fighters do better away from home. Less distractions, less pressure.

If some of the better football teams or basketball teams almost never (or never) went away to play...

Then these same people would say "tell me why playing at home makes team X better?"... I just saw team X loose to this good team Y... so obviously they would always loose no matter where they play! Right?

No.

It happens to be that teams often play abroad and therefore we know that it has a huge effect.

And that is even with extensive regulations of the referees etc. In boxing it is much much more important. Because there the home town promoter has a lot of influence of picking the referees, judges, planning media sessions... (e.g. dragging the opponent outside for hours like Goosen did with Kessler freezing) and on and on... All on top of all the advantages we already know about from many other sports like the fans cheering, familiar languages, culture and so on.

As another example... ALL fights in the super six were won by the home town fighter. It is beyond any doubt that home advantage has a huge effect in boxing.

If you've ever played with any emotion, any sport that needed heart, it is easy to understand 'homecourt advantage'. You wanna win it for them. If it's an evenly matched pair of teams or fighters, etc., the fans can give that slight push over.

Also, obviously no need to travel, everything is familiar. They can focus more on training than acclimatizing.

 

Of course it matters. If you're having a fight and every time you get punched in the face thousands of people are cheering and baying for your blood of course that affects you, and vice versa.
Bit of a no brainer really just look at sports teams home and away records, they always do betetr at home.

Yeah.... its pretty stupid. I dont believe that having the hometown advantage changes the chance of getting KO'd or one's overall performance. Even the cheering can have a positive OR negative effect on a fighter. Generally not strategically good if you're reacting and acting on what a crowd urges you to do....

Outside of the boxer, obviously there are other advantages others have mentioned, including favorable judge scoring in a close fight.

Ward considers himself a Bay brother, and in one of those lousy 24/7's (it was a Super6 one), he markedly said he looks to bring the spotlight of boxing to Oakland to increase the local economy in his area, and feels that he's doing it to give back to his community. If that's fully true, its pretty honorable if you ask me.

And of course, haters will dismiss this fact and call it a deception, for whatever reason but to acknowledge that their pitiful hate is misled towards uselessness. But demanding to fight in Oakland actually makes this reason pretty valid... cuz like all the haters are mystified, he can't be making his best bang for his buck there, and that he MUST BE afraid to leave Oakland lol. The reason is to give back to the community fits well.
