I don't understand why this is so strange.

If a boxer is from your home country, there's no rule anywhere that says you should support the guy, certainly not if the other boxer is more likable and superior in every way.

 

I think Fat Dan has it wrong. I don't think Mexicans would root for GGG over Canelo, but I can see a large % Mexican-Americans (Chicanos) that would.

In general Mexicans and Mex-Amer are true fans of boxing. They prefer certain boxing styles over other styles too. Most Mexicans and Chicanos prefer the Boxer-Puncher style and the pressure fighter.

Personally, as a Brit, I would've liked nothing more than seeing GGG tenderising the **** out of Carl Froch's meat head.

 

Agreed, rooting for someone based solely on country of origin isn't my thing. It'll be interesting to hear the reaction when they cut to GGG in the crowd during the Canelo/Khan fight though. I think it'll be far more cheers than boos, might even get a mini Triple G chant going.

 

Well, then people supporting a fighter because he's from your home country should not be subjected to criticism then. It works both ways.

It's like the people in Jacksonville supporting their home team, there's nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

One of the reasons why I support LL is because he grew up in Canada pretty much, fought for Canada and was somebody who became a champion from what I'm. Canadian boxing is literally dead in the water (Not that it was much to begin with). I love the fact that he became so great with a Canadian amateur trainer (Arnie Boehm) and trained in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. :deal

I can relate to LL. :happy

 

The Mexican fight fans that I know are just that. While they love their greats, they seem to love "warriors" above all. Also, they are not shy about giving credit where deserved, despite the nationality of the fighter or who wins or loses.

Some that I know share my opinion that it's not Canelo- so much as his management/promotions team- that may be waffling about GGG.

I personally think Canelo would rather get carried out on his shield than be seen as avoiding a tough fight.

We'll see- after he wastes Khan.

 

Mexican fans around here have disowned El Pollo Theyre rooting for Khan. They say Pollo cannot be Mexican as Mexican's FIGHT!!! not Run away

I don't think any Mexican would root for GGG over Canelo. It won't happen. If this fight ever happens go to a Mexican Sports bar and see if anyone in there is rooting for GGG if he does he probably won't make it out alive.:deal
