I wrote this VICE piece on the case of HW boxer Tim 'Doc' Anderson and his promoter Rick 'Elvis' Parker. Anderson killed Parker after Anderson was poisoned to ensure he lost against former New York Jets player Mark Gastineau. But that's not before walk-on appearances from George Foreman, Randall 'Texx' Cobb, and Don King among others.

    Good write-up.

There’s a book about this called The Years of the Locust.

Rick “Elvis” Parker was a dirtbag, no doubt, but I’m not sure I buy that Tim was drugged — his symptoms after the fight are remarkably in line with a bad concussion. Some of Tim’s account (I don’t recall exactly what now as it’s been a few years since I read the book) didn’t match up exactly when the vide of the second Gastineau fight surfaced.

It’s also hard to get around the fact that he brought a gun in the first place. There’s no reason to believe he didn’t plan to use it (which, of course, he did) and he really unloaded on his victim. Not only shot him, but shot him up — including his privates.

I don’t see him ever getting clemency. Governors aren’t going to get points for letting free a guy who shot up an unarmed victim. It’s easy to be sympathetic to Doc Anderson, but there’s no getting around the details of the crime.

You should do one on the death of Jesse James Hughes.
