I'd say the best way to get in shape for boxing is to be thrown in the deep end. I'm from a fairly new club with coaches who are fairly new to the game. The guys I fight are generally taught by more experienced coaches. To be competitive I need that physical edge.

It's nice as an addon but then again many things are. Swimming is a good addition to most workout regimes as well but will swimming get you in condition to box? No it won't, you need boxing specific work for that. It's just a technicality btw. I understand what you are saying and agree on cross training, you can't box all the time. But if the purpose is getting in shape for a fight you should do as many boxing related things as possible, especially for an amateur.

I'm not training for anything in particular and generally I'm too lazy to do burpees, but if I wasn't lazy, they'd be my number one exercise. Proper ones, from standing; jump down to push up, legs in, tuck jump right from the floor, right back down to the floor, bounce into the push up, repeat. Thing is, you make them as hard as you want; speed everything up, push harder on the push up, jump higher, whatever.

Can't think of anything better than burpees for overall fitness. Obviously you can add pull ups, sit ups too if you wanted, but then that's just joining a load of exercises together and it doesn't flow.

    Too easy imo.

My opinion is that burpee conditioning is great but it isn't enough for one simple reason:

Try doing it more than 3x/wk. Good luck with that.

But if you really push it and you're getting like 13, 14 burpees per set, then yes it is a great conditioner and can replace roadwork. But it's better as a supplement. You can do both.

I agree with this .I am not doing less than 15 and i'm aiming for 3 sets of 15 over a 3 minute round so atleast 45 in 3 minutes and I want up to 6 rounds 30 seconds rest .270 burpees in 21 minutes that is
