Love Joe, but I think if George caught him, it would be over, but it would be good while it lasted.Probably anywhere from 2 to 3 rounds.
If Louis's chin was as bad as paople claim then why was nobody able to capitalize on it? Louis probably fought more ranked contenders than any other heavyweight champion, and they included a lot of murderous punchers. The fact is that nobody ever took him out with a single shot. In fact based on what it took to actualy stop Louis and foreman combined with their respective opposition you would have to conclude that Louis had better durability than Foreman.
Louis would KO Foreman, Louis will get caught somewhere and hurt but when Foreman moves in to finish he will feel the thunder of Louis and his fast combos bouncing off of his head.. It would be a great Fight!! Foremans best shot is to club Louis to the canvas early but even if Louis hits the deck he has the power to hurt Foreman when he climbs to his feet. In a wild fight Louis wins by a KO in round 5!! Louis will hit Foreman like hes never been hit before.. I just don't think ANY heavyweight in history can walk to Joe and not be knocked out!! Foreman is tailor made for Louis.. I give Foreman about a 25% chance of stopping Louis early if that doesn't happen Foreman is in for a beating!!
Joe Louis by stoppage. I believe this is a matchup that would showcase the importance of class among fighters. Ken Norton and Joe Frazier are not Joe Louis. George Foreman is no Joe Louis. Louis had the class of the most tried-and-true heavyweight champion ever. No limited clubber --no matter how big or powerful-- is going to overcome Joe Louis. First of all, Louis stays cool, is an excellent boxer and fast, straight puncher with dynamite in his fists. At the highest levels, and excluding the short uppercut, Foreman is a tad slow, uncoordinated and has a leaky defense. He just has a truckload of power. But a great, tough boxer/puncher like Louis can beat him, because he will be hitting him often enough to get the job done. Straight punches hurt George Foreman! This is a Louis specialty. The busy Louis jab will disrupt George. Louis' classic stance and sense of distance will allow him to duck the haymakers and uncoil with deadly precision through Foreman's Mummy defense. There is no doubt that Foreman is a devastating puncher, BUT: Frazier walked into his full power all night and Norton could never take a heavy shot. Louis would not walk into Foreman but jab and counter, as against Max Baer. Louis was vulnerable to being caught by speed, but Foreman's blows were ponderous. Make no mistake: Louis was tough and, though most likely will be rocked, will not wilt. Plus, take Foreman into deep water and his behind is yours. Louis' stamina is much better than Foreman's. Ken Norton was hitting George Foreman in Caracas with jabs and right hands, but lacked Louis' precision and power and overall toughness. So such success in that two-rounder is but a speck, completely overrun by Foreman's rampaging attack. Louis will succeed where Norton failed.
Have to agree with prime here. George's only chance is to end this early like the 1st or 2nd round early. If he doesn't Joe takes him in 4 or 5. And as for 38 Louis vs 52 Marciano? Louis by late round stoppage...probably due to cuts. Joe's jab would be the big difference. That plus his right hand which was practically non existent by the time Marciano fought him.
As much as Louis' skillset has endeared me to him as my favorite Heavyweight champion, I have to go with Foreman on this. Foreman's power was phenomenal, not to mention the enormous size & reach difference; if he is allowed to push & pull Joe the way he did Smokin Joe, I can see him getting him out there within 6. However if Louis can withstand an early onslaught I pick him to tag Foreman in the 10th or so. Louis to lick him in the rubber match also.
