Most of Haglers stoppage wins were tkos.
Hitting hard does not make you a "murderous puncher".Which Hagler WAS NOT

 

hagler probably does have at least as many sudden knockouts against world class fighters as the likes of Olivares, Zarate or Gomez.

I think his power is quite underrated.

Hagler had above average power at 160 pounds........... His power was there........ Hagler hurt mother****ers real bad when he was on fire.............. But at 175 against a monster like Qawi, Hagler's power doesn't mean ****......... Qawi eats Hagler up for his own stoppage win....... I'm talking Qawi of 1981 to 1983 at 175 against prime Hagler from 1980 thru 1985........ Qawi all the way , Jose........

Huge punchers are guys like Ketchel,Hostak,Robinson,Valdez,Jackson,McClellan,Hearns.

Contenders like Nesmith,Sibson,Roldan,Hart ,hit harder than Hagler.
Face first maulers like Antoufermo,and Hamsho,Roldan, took multiple shots from Hagler.
Loucif Hamani? The guy was a light middle weight.
Same with Hearns,,same with Mugabi, both of whom hit harder than Hagler.

Hearns destroyed Duran.Hagler couldnt even floor him

How many times did Monzon have Briscoe down ? Briscoe had a killer chin.

He did not land his best against Lonard or Duran or are you saying he did ? We are talking power and now you are slipping into match up ... are you actually saying he hit Duran and Leonard with his best and could not floor them ? If so you are simply wrong.

Minter was a terrific fighter, incredibly tough with an incredible chin. By Minter's own admittance, Hagler was destroying him. Notice his look of relief at the early rond stoppage? Hagler was tearing his head off. The cut saved him from being flattened.

Look how many very strong guys he destroyed as Champ; Hamsho was never dropped,l Hagler iced him. A prime bull like Sibson, destroyed, Roldan destroyed, Mugabi destroyed, Sypion destroyed ... Hagler ruined guys.

I agree in a way with a Qawi win, but at the same time it is hard to see Hagler just fold up and lose by knockout. He had tremendous will and spirit and guts. In the ring I am not sure Qawi could take it. I think Hagler hit harder than most people think. I think he usually held back so he would not be hit clean. He kept his punches short until he was finishing off guys and then he would swing and score knockouts. He had the sharpest punches.

Youv'e got a severe case of the rose coloured glasses.Hagler hit Hamsho with the kitchen sink ,and Hamsho couldn't slip a punch if his life depended on it, he took multiple shots FLUSH,before going down.

Sibson ,took out Minter with two punches ,ONE left hook dropped him ,and a right finished him , broke his nose and kod him ,thats power.
Sibson was short of top class ,he had fast hands and legitimate one shot power ,I saw him ice
many guys with ONE left hook.
Hagler may have been the most accurate middleweight champion EVER, he is easily a top 4 at the weight, maybe number 1,but he is not a huge puncher.

Briscoe was 29 when he fought Monzon,in his prime.

He was 35 when he fought Hagler ,and decidely NOT in his prime.

Don't tell me about the Minter fight ,I was there.
MInter was a good but not great champ.I saw a lot of him up close.

 

Hagler is the better fighter overall... But Qawi, who gave a young Holyfield absolute hell in 1986, would be too heavy and strong for the Marvelous one.

For the record I think Hagler is a super fighter, an 18 carat All Time Great, the way he carried himself ,,and with no real weaknesses.
He ducked nobody at 160lbs.
I was especially impressed with his accuracy , his balance, and his chin was concrete .
I just see him as a technician, who happened to have a good bang in his fists, the guy was a ring mechanic.imo.
