Imagine a prime for prime fight between Chuck and Randy Cobb. Definitely not one for the fainthearted.
Cobb would have defeated him easily if he was in any sort of shape ... when Cobb was serious in his earlier days he could fight .. see the Norton fight and the Dokes fights ..
i always like to put him some where in the top pfp 1000 heavyweigts. he'd rank in the top 500 if he could snort more blow than Tex Cobb and eat a four course meal of Larry Holmes punches to the head, then maybe chuck would be rated better.
Was Chuck Wepner great? Look if I'm being honest the answer is no. But should you ask me if he brought athleticism and a genuine will to win into his fights? Also no.
Hey Chuck knocked Ali down so he has to be up there. If Ali wouldn’t have kept rabbit punching him and if Chuck would have trained better he probably wins a unanimous decision
Number one he never knocked Ali down less you listen to Maxiepad! Stepped on Muhammad's foot with those skii's he calls boxing shoes, and very weak push to Ali's back, watch it on youtube! Ernie Terrell thrashed Wepner and was robbed! Eveyone knows that!- Randy Neumann lost his head and Butted Wepner tko'ing himself with a cut and winning like 6-0 or 5-1 or so!, and he never quit boxing for Chuck Wepner goodness, Duane Bobick pretty much finished them both. Wepner had no punch can go 15 with a non puncher, Joe Bugner beat him with insulting ease at 19! -Buster Mathis also floored Chopped Chuck, and Wepner told he'd never had been floored! Alltime great for Maxiepad - no one else!
He stepped on his foot while hitting him in the chest. I have to be honest. His bout with Andre The Giant was more exciting than Ali's bout with Antonio Inoki. OTOH Ali's people weren't going to allow him to be body slammed but there was a staged event where Gorilla Monsoon lifted him off his feet.
I am going to probably be in the minority here but I found Chuck Wepner's fight with Muhammad Ali entertaining, okay it wasn't a masterpiece but even though I knew the outcome beforehand I still enjoyed it. I had it on an Muhammad Ali ESPN DVD box set and watched the entire fight years ago.
