I've heard rumours that Hrgovic is opting to wait around, and will fill in on May 18 if either Usyk or Fury pull out ... Probably a fair chance of that happening considering who is involved here.

    Why not?

He's hardly been game for big fights before - at time of fighting them, only Molina was even proven as a gatekeeper level fighter... And not a great one at that!

And that 1 top 15 fighter was a nobody who hadn't even fought a gatekeeper when Hrgovic took the fight...

It's starting to look like a very protected career.

There's only so long you can wait for the big scary guys to leave the scene without others coming up and earning their stripes... And winding up better than you.

If he is as good as his fans think no need to wait on the sidelines for his title shot, probably for a vacant belt.

What he needs at this point are good opponents. The best opponent he faced he lost to in the eyes of the majority. In fact, Zhang beating Joyce is the best thing to happen to his resume since the Zhang fight.

Now fight a live opponent for a change and win and build some momentum

    100%.

If Zhang had lost to Joyce, then Molina would still be the best and most proven Hrgovic had beaten... That's a pretty rank record for a 31 year old supposed future champion.

Of course, Zhang did beat Joyce (twice) and got hyped up himself off the back of it... Which suits Hrgovic just fine... But as you say, there's an awful lot more he could be doing right now to prove himself and improve himself.

I agree with this, I am very curious to see what Anderson does against such a jump in quality. Does he have what it takes, or is all the hype just that - hype.

Because Dubois is gatekeeper at best. I find it hard that anyone ducks him. A big name and a mediocre fighter. Perfect pick for anyone in the top 10 trying to gain exposure. Thats Dubois's purpose in the division. He will replace the warrior gatekeeper Takam

You'd think Hrgovic was the second coming reading some of the replies. Dubois had 2 losses one against Joyce who hits very hard and the other against arguably the best heavyweight on the planet so he's written off. I think Hrgovic might come unstuck if he fights Dubois

Exactly. You are saying what every neutral unbiased fan on here thinks.

And what team Hrgovic also think given he is waiting out for his shot whilst feeding on the occasional bum.

He needs to be careful as it won’t help him when he does step up after his gimme fights. He should want to test himself and the Saudis will pay him handsomely to do so.

Very frustrating. Especially so given his deluded fan base. I wish he cared about his career as much as they do.

Delusional responses here. Dubois is glass jawed quitter. Hrgovic annihilates him.

Great. If he agrees to fight him I look forward to it.

Dubois because his scalp is worth a bit more since Usyk and Joyce both have a piece of it.

And I think it's a fairly easy win for him

I think you're being very generous in regards to the term gatekeeper in regards to Molina. I'd say he was a full on journeymen as he never beat anyone considered a prospect or fringe contender unless you regard a shot as hell Adamek as a fringe contender which I don't.

But yeah, Hrgovic doesn't seem to be what we'd call a risk taker. He's been quite happy to sit on his mandatory since beating Zhang and wait for a title shot. Nothing wrong with that as it's the smart thing to do but we has sure as hell can't respect that, understand it yes but he's done nothing to dispel the idea he wants to fight anyone decent right now and I wouldn't even regard Dubois as any kind of threat, yet that's still deemed too much to risk with him sitting on a mandatory position.

Hrgovic is chief support if Fury pulls out again. Given he has been ducking this fight for 2 years now, no one would be surprised if he pulls out at the last minute again.
