Who wins this one? This would be a guaranteed War, i would give a Prime Mayorga the edge here but right know id probably lean towards Kirkland, but Mayorga is still a dangerous puncher and hes awkward as hell with a pretty good chin. What do you guys think?
Mayorga's chin is more cracked than the liberty bell. In his prime this would of been a firestorm, with maybe Mayorga by mid TKO.
Im still thinking he has a good chin, Mosley caught him with a big shot. He was handling Mosleys power ok before that. Everytime Mayorga was kod it was against Big punchers where he took alot of punishment before getting kod.
Right now (meaning, if kirkland was out of prison) There is no doubt in my mind Kirkland would beat the ever living hell out of Mayorga, bad style matchup for Mayorga at this point.... If this was a prime mayorga.... What a great fight it would be, I think Kirklands hands might be heavier but Mayorga had a better chin and to be honest, if you go look at mayorga at his best, i know this will sound crazy but his defence and footwork are also better then Kirklands. I just dont know how this one plays out.... Mayorga at his best shouldnt be at 154, Kirkland is a very very strong 154lber... and would give mayorga no quarter, and i think Mayorga is better with a guy who he can bully a bit. I just dont know.... its hard to pick IMO how this fight plays out head to head,
I know what your saying Anarci, and although i dont think its bad, IMO his chin isnt even close to the same though.... i mean, hes taken years of alchohal abuse and letting sparring partners and opponents hit him in the head with free shots, has been ko'd now brutally twice and stopped another in recent years, Mayorga was hurt by Vargas in there fight, now i understand vargas is a big guy but vargas was fighting as a fat, one foot in retirement, inactive, bulged l-5 disk with little to no torque or trunk in his shots and he was still able to hurt mayorga.... No way Mayorga would have gotten hurt by those shots 6 years ago. IMO. I dont think his chin is completely GONE, hell no... he wouldnt have made it to the 12th with mosley if it was... you are right, but its def not what it was, IMO. and we have yet to see it since the knockout as well.
I was just thinking, i wonder what fighter who should be at 147lbs could fight tito trinidad at middleweight and after letting him crack them with some free left hooks, go on to absorb 60% of his power punches through the rest of the fight and not go down until a body shot. Mayorga had an amazing chin.... damn!
Jose L Lopez would have been able to handle Titos power no problem. Lopez has one of the best chins ive seen the way he took puches from some big bangers like a Prime Yori Boy,Quartey,Page and never even flinched. Lopez and Mayorga sure would have been a great fight too. Big punchers and great chins.
Very cool.... ive never seen him fight but i should check him out. There would def be a very select select group that would join them. anyways man good thread, i couldnt pick a solid winner.... :-patsch
YEy thanks i usually like to post matches that are pretty evenly matched and exciting like the Arreola and Morrison that i posted earlier. Lopez fought a draw with Quartey and if he would have started banging earlier might have knocked out Quartey(he almost did) but he tended to get lazy in the ring, had to light a fire under his ass to get him going. I think Lopez's best fight was with Yori Boy he looked awesome and is the only fighter that ive ever seen hurt and drop Yori boy like that. He took Titos shots better than Lopez's. Totally undisciplined its a shame he could have been great, In Delahoyas prime he once said that Lopez is the one who worried him the most. I heard that Lopez use to like to Smoke weed drink and surf more than he liked to train.
Great great matchup, and a hard one to choose. But I voted for Mayorga to win by UD. This will be an all out war to the end. It will go 12 rounds. I think Mayorga will just outpoint Kirkland and even hurt him at some points in the fight. Mayorga can take whatever Kirkland delivers.
I'd say Kirkland from what I've seen. The guy is a straight forward banger who throws tight, powerful punches. Seems very busy in the ring. Stamina is the question. Looks very, very strong at 154. I think he could ko Angulo by mid-rounds.
Mayorga wins after Kirkland doesn't show up. Actually in all honesty, it would probably be a draw when neither man shows up but at least James has a pretty good excuse. Alright no jokes. If Kirkland took on Mayorga, Kirkland probably wins a stoppage during the latter portions of the fight. It normally takes Mayorga a few rounds to crumble and Kirkland has consistent power and pressure. Kirkland suffers a flash knockdown early in round 1, recovers and takes the next 6-7 rounds before stopping Mayorga.
