I already stated earlier i think if we were talking now, Kirkland would hammer him.... im talking prime mayorga.

Mayorga is fighting Din Thomas soon in his first MMA match, hes having problems with Don King that P.O.S (king that is)

But probably for the best, i dont want to see mayorga beat up too much more... hes taken a lot of shots through his career.

edit - saw someone already answered you on where mayorgas at lol... my bad.

    Campbell has Don King problems.

Guerrero is just inactive.GBP are talking about putting him in with Katsidis.

    Jacobs is....

I said draw, I havent seen enough of Kirkland obviously to say how he would fare

Mayorga in his prime had an iron chin, was wild, and hit like a damn mule and was a physical beast.

The guys technique was ****, but he was strong and so wild and aggressive that he beat a lot of fighters that technically were far superior

Kirkland from what we saw is a hard puncher, not as hard as Mayorga. He had a relentless pressuring style, offense=defense, and he looked to have a great chin

His best win was against Joel Julio.

I cant say how he would do Mayorga. He continued to look as good as he did, I venture he could beat Mayorga in a 12 round war

Then again, it might that prime Mayorga would have thrown him off his game with his wild style and ferocious punching from every angle

    So I say draw.

Although i can see favoring Kirkland cause of his youth and momentum, and Mayorgas inactivity. I am surprised how one sided the Poll is . I think many are underestimatin Mayorgas Power and Awkwardness somethin Kirkland has never faced before.

Is this Mayorga now or prime Mayorga?

Because the current mayorga would be competitive for about 3 rounds before getting railroaded by Kirkland.

    Prime Mayorga its 50/50

I have a feeling that Kirkland is undergoing a little overrating due to his streak and 'taken away at his best' type thing, because honestly, if you go back and look at Kirkland, yes hes a beast.... but Mayorga would be the strongest, hardest hitting guy hes fought himself, and with just how completely wide open kirkland leaves himself, he tends to get very sloppy chasing opponents too (mayorga in his prime was wild, but rarely sloppy... there is a difference)... hes going to be eating shot after shot and by about round 6 they will start to show. Mayorga showed in the Tito, Vargas and Mosley fights that he has heart for days... he will stay in there with Kirkland, and Kirkland has already been stunned a bit at this stage of his career, i dont see him trading with mayorga succesfully.

Again, Kirkland is one of my top 5 current fighters..... and i think he gives mayorga hell, but hes just too wide open, trades too much, for a fighter with as good a chin and as big a punch as Mayorga.

Mayorga is coming with better footwork, better ability, better chin, close power, wont get hit as much as kirkland, and will be landing CRAZY bombs from angles Kirkland has never seen before on that wide open chin.

I can def see Kirkland really really troubling Mayorga, like i said, i think Mayorga is a guy who feeds off being able to bully his opponent a bit, and there will be none of that here... Kirkland will be on him like crazy, and i expect Kirkland to win the first 3 or 4 rounds actually, but chopping right hand by looping left hook Mayorga will start slowing Kirkland down, with Mayorgas superior defence (probably the only time youll ever hear that) footwork and chin proving the difference.

Mayorga has the fast, short, sharp straight right that i think will be landing on kirkland all night long.... with Kirklands strength and aggression able to push Mayorga back.

What a damn fight this would be prime for prime.... the unstoppable force vs the immovable object.

In the end though, like i said i think both the immovable object gets moved (mayorga gets backed up and beat up through the first 4 rounds or so) AND the unstoppable force gets stopped (Kirkland gets chopped down by round 10)

    Great fight.

    If we are talking 2010

i think Kirkland bullies his way to a decision or late stoppage over Mayorga. I dont think Mayorga has 'it' (fire, desire, chin, and energy) at this stage to beat a guy like Kirkland who is going to be pushing him every second of the fight, and where hed have to go through hell to win....
Mayorga tends to throw one punch at a time now, and his shots dont have what they used to.... adding to that his last fight was yet ANOTHER brutal knock out.... logic says Kirkland eats him up.

There's no overrating on Kirkland here. I just see Mayorga as an extremely shot fighter. One whose record in recent fights indicates a steep decline in both his talent and his punch resistance. Mayorga would get creamed by Kirkland.

Mayorga in his prime is a different story.

Well this thread is Mayorga 2010, i think its too early to compare Kirkland to a prime Mayorga. But Id pick a prime Mayorga over him.

Are you forgetting that he gave one of the top PFP guys a real tough time the last time out:huh

Only reason im not picking Mayorga in this one is his inactivity.

Mosley at 154 isn't the same Shane Mosley at WW.

A questionable win over Oscar, two losses to Winky and two wins over the faded Fernando Vargas define Mosley at 154 lbs.

Mayorga's last 5 fights show he's not the same fighter. He's shot.

Mosley ATG and Future first ballot HOF
Vargas He was past it but still could have beat alot of the contenders out there
Piccirillo He won this one too against a former champ not all that good but not a bad fighter either
Delahoya ATG and future first ballot HOF
Tito ATG and Future first ballot HOF

Hey I'm not doubting Mayorga took on some BAMF. Unfortunately those guys took a lot out of him. I think he would lose to any of the top 5 in the JMW division and I'm a mega Mayorga fan.

Two face first brawlers with absolutely no defense... I'm going with the fresher and hungrier one. Kirkland by 7th round KO.

Your probably right he has been to inactive, but the Mayorga that fought Shane is a top 3 or 4 JM. Only Williams and Martinez would be favored in my book and maybe Spinks style wise but that fight was close. He would have kod CIntron, Angulo hasnt peaked yet, Foreman looks good but the jury is still out Santos was washed up.

Whoever said Kirkland has a great chin is sauced out of their mind. Guy has been dropped atleast twice by nobodies. Dude is a brutal ko waiting to happen, still takes this version of mayorga though. Prime Mayorga KO3 Kirkland, maybe even less.
