Can all the Youngster fans ,just think about how great Duran was when he first moved to Welter? e was very fast ,and not the Duran who fought at 154 and 160 he was not to far behind his legendary self at 135 only differance was ,that his punch was not the same, but he still hit hard.
I cant believe that 11 people picked Pac to knock him outatsch Duran had a great Chin! He took Barkley and Haglers best but some of you think Pac knocks him out:huh Leonard hit at least as hard as Pac and he never seemed to ever hurt him(although Duran has said Leonard hit real hard) Duran would just sneer and keep coming after Pac hit him clean.
it's quite shocking how close this vote is. Guess most people on this board are in their early 20's and never saw Duran fight, it's the only plausible explaination I can think of. And while I'm pretty sure Duran would win, it would be a fight for the ages, however long it lasted.
If Pac wins against Floyd clearly...Every fantasy fights going forward, within a weight range PAc has to be considered favored. In Floyd, you have a fighter that has predicated his game to not losing, especially post 130. Whether he is an elite ATG is arguable. But the man (Floyd) is one of the hardest man to beat straight up in the history of this sport. Note that I didnt say Floyd is a beast, or hes offensively dynamic, nor did I say hed destroy anyone. Thats not him. With him you have to analyze him differently, he doesnt let anyone beat him. That ZERO isnt there for no reason.
While I personally think the Leonard win (who was also protecting his "ZERO" btw) would rank as being the more impressive of the two wins, as I think most people would say that Leonard, especially at 147, was at a level higher than Floyd, and pretty much did everything just as good or better than him. Certainly he had more power. Pac would definately show that he belonged in the same ring as Duran. Fact is though, Duran's defensive is extremely under-rated. He could sit in the pocket, make you miss and come back firing brutal combinations, and he could pretty much do that the whole fight if required. That's just a skill set very few fighters have.
Manos de Piedra is the archetypical Latin, Macho-type fighter. He's like the prototype for that kind of fighter, although he could box or go defensive if he needed to. What would Duran have done if Pac would have taunted him the way he taunted Cotto? I can guarantee you he wouldn't back peddal away like Cotto did. You guys have to remember that even Hagler was extremely respectful of Duran's power and grit in their fight. That was one of the few fights in which I saw Hagler fighting with a lot of caution and reserve, way out of character for him but understandable given the nature of the opponent.
I do agree that Durans defense is underrated by people who werent around during is time. His instinct is the best Ive ever seen (Pac as well although not to the same extent) His right hand is phenomenal that it seemed to be able to reach anyone. He closed the distance well, hes just a complete a fighter could be. Im not insinuating anything here BUT everyone can be beaten, Hearns would have whooped Duran even in his prime IMHO, so will Benitez. Its more than styles though ..its what happens when two fighters with great skills collide in the ring, you can pretty much throw anything out of the window. I mean FFS PAC fought the wrong fight against Cotto and he whooped him. All you need to do is understand tagalog and youd know how livid Roach was with Pac early.
The Duran of Montreal would have been just too much. He`d crowd Pacman, and work him with debilitating body shots. I mean loook what he did to SRL. It`s easy to overllok Duran, as many people might remeber the Duran that beat Barkley, and Moore. But, that was not even close to vintage Duran. His Manos De Piedras would hurt Pacman, and then finish him. Duran was very underrated with his amazing boxing savvy... This is not a putdown of Pac, but prime Duran was a beast!!!
How is that not vintage Duran?? Ive watched that fight and it was clear but not a blowout. Ray did the chicken early on but that was it. It was more ring control for Duran and smarts. I'm not going to make an excuse but Leonard really fought that fight wrong..thats Rays problem but it wasnt some kind of a massacre that people are hailing it to be.
Best versions of each at the weight, Duran stops him. You should have did a public poll, mate.... its always good to see who voted for which option.
