POLL: Which fighters would you favor over Larry Holmes?

Holmes was very beatable and not only by Ali. In fact other guys would be worse fights for him. Tyson destroys him and lewis could even finish him.
Frazier would destroy his ribs if he lasts the distance

 

Marciano Tyson Ali and Lewis id wager a lot on.

 

Prime Ali Prime Frazier and Prime Joe Louis. That's it.

 

Rocky Marciano: not a prayer. Rocky gets his face minced by that jab and can't keep up with Holmes. If a past it Walcott can out-box him, you can bet for damn sure that a prime Holmes can.

Muhammad Ali: Ali's speed makes the difference here, but Holmes' jab makes this one razor close.

Mike Tyson: Holmes is better than Douglas in almost every way and uses the exact same game plan. Feeds him the uppercut and takes him deep in the late rounds.

Evander Holyfield: nope, old Holmes was wayyyy too competitive with a prime Evander to not be favoured here.

Riddick Bowe: awesome fight but Holmes should out-jab him and do what Evander was supposed to in the rematch. Holy was supposed to box on the back foot and turn laterally when Bowe came at him. Holmes could do this better and is more likely to stick to the game-plan.

Lennox Lewis: 50/50. Holmes wins the battle of the jabs and so takes more rounds. If Lewis nails him with a right hand over the jab then he could get a KD. I don't think it'd make too much difference over a 15 round fight though. Holmes 9-6 decision.

Vitali Klitschko: LOL Vitali gets jabbed to **** and comprehensively out-boxed.

Wladimir Klitschko: Holmes is too mobile and too good with his 1-2, body work and uppercuts. He'd have to fight like he did vs Cooney, though, and work on the front-foot. Wlad's 1-2-3 could give Holmes certain issues, but I don't really think Wlad has the style to win the kinda fight that Holmes would make it.

Tyson Fury: Fury gets out-jabbed and that matters in a technical fight.


They're not mentioned here, but I'd pick Frazier to beat him and Foreman is about as close to a 50/50 as you'll ever find. I think Lewis, Holmes and Foreman are basically all on the same level, and that level is basically the highest ever.

 

A shame no Frazier or Louis in this list, while a few lesser fighters are

 

decent post and breakdown.I agree on everything. only minor thing is Holmes would be a definitive favorite over a Lennox Lewis

 

So Holmes wins against Ali but loses pretty much against the rest.Ridiculous

Better hand speed, better foot work, better jab.Wlad would look mechanical at times.

Me too. I would pick Joe Louis and FOTC Frazier over Larry (but ONLY FOTC Frazier).
