This a poll to see who would win, and who was the real #1.
I believe Greb though smaller would have outspeeded Wills to win a dec.

    Your thoughts

I wish you better luck than I got from the Dempsey haters who refused to make picks from Dempsey versus Wills and Greb.:good
    I pick Greb by decision.

Gee, seems like nobody is interested in this great match up between the two #1's. C'mon many alts and the rest of the GOL's, no opinion???

The fighter most similar to Greb that Wills fought could be Jeff Clark.

Clark defeated some name guys like Luther McCarty, Kid Norfolk, and-and Sam Langford pre 1915 in addition to going the distance with a much bigger Sam Mcvey and Jim Battling Johnson.

Clark was known for speed and defense. He wasn't very big about 170 pounds. So there are some similarities to Greb, however, Clark lacked durability. I think Wills takes a mauling like decision here, as Greb lacked the firepower to hurt him and would lose badly in the clinches, even though he might score the cleanest blows.

Greb was so remarkable that one takes this fight seriously,

    but I think Wills wins.

Lots of little fellows have speed on the bigger guys but that doesn't win them the fights,

and to me the film of a 35 year old Wills doesn't show a particularly slow man for one of his size and age.

What it does show is that he was type who went to the body first--not a head hunter. I don't see that Greb has the firepower to hold Wills off, nor the strength to handle him in the clinches where both apparently liked to hit and hold.

Greb is one of the great p4p fighters,

but Wills is simply too big for him,

good big man beats great little man

    Greb: 5' 8" 71 inch reach

    Wills: 6' 2" 76 inch reach

    GTunney: 6'0" 76 inch reach

As Greb once told Tunney after a loss to Gene: "Gene, you have just gotten
    too big for me".

Nowt, I've just started a rather nice bottle of red, having caught up with last night's Peaky Blinders .
Bit concerned about Muhammad Ali ,other than that, every thing is Tickety Boo with me.

He looked plenty slow to me ,and I remember looking forward to my first sight of him and being very dissapointed he looks very ordinary to my eyes, even allowing for his age.
It must also be said Wills was a health nut , did not drink, smoke, or hit the night spots..

Wills' tale of the tape is all over the place. It's fascinating. The particulars for the Firpo fight list his reach at 84". That's the longest i've seen.
