And if you know who was here he'd say "Well Dempsey should have fought Wills years earlier!" ignoring all the attempts at making the fight and NY Boxing commission (and other states) forbidding mixed fights. Sometimes you just can't win.
I got it but sometimes constructive criticism is best through PM's rather than a public forum that can deter sales ...
OMG there are nearly 200 pages covering the offers. I'll drop some in here this afternoon, gotta take the wife to the doctor's office now.
ok here are SOME Of the offers and tribulations around a Dempsey-Will fights ever happening. I am using @apollack book for reference; Adam I'm not plagarizing your book; maybe this will be goo publicity. Providence RI businessmen claimed to have offered Kearns (Dempsey’s promoter) $500,000 for Wills-Dempsey fight. Kearns turned them down said they didn’t have the cash. Early 1924 Kearns alleged D would fight W in Tijuana with promoter Coffroth. Early 1925 Tex Rickard, promoter, said he’d received a wire from Kearns offering to match W and D. Paddy Mullins, W’s manager, posted a check for $2500 with the NY State Athletic Commision for a W-D fight. The Commission informed D that he had to accept the offer. Kearns ignored the threat, saying D had no NY State licence to box. 1925 Charles Henderson announced he would post a check for $500,000. Jimmy De Forest, Polo Grounds promoter, offered money for a fight. July 1925 Dempsey met with NY State Commission and accepted the Wills challenge. August 1925 Floyd Fitzsimmons announced Dempseyigned a contract to fight Wills for $1,000,000. Mullins posts a $25,000 forfeit check with the NY State Commission. September 1925 Dempsey, Wills, Mullins, Fitzsimmons meet and signed articles for a fight. In and around all of the above are squabbles between Dempsey and Kearns, the NY State Commission first banning mixed bouts then demanding the D fight W. I'm also leaving out several supposed offers that were BS. And in the background, Dempsey was making tons of money making movies and barnstorming. A very complicated story.
No offence HE but reviews a review you’re being a bit of a baby about it - FD stated the book is comprehensive and that he recommends them. I’ve said similarly it’s a complete text they’re where you go for the total truth, nothing he said that I noticed is “wrong” if anything he’s just letting the purchaser know what he is getting into.
