Oleksandr Sergeevich Stretskyy vs. Otari Gogoberishvili, 6 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Gogoberishvili, a switch-hitting Georgian with a (lo and behold) losing record, walks out to some traditional Roma gypsy music, guess he's repping the caravan (possibly Lom peoples) set.

"Pit Bull" Stretskyy is a Ukrainian southpaw who competed in the Olympics in 2008 at middleweight (eliminated in a landslide by the Bahamian future pro contender Tureano Johnson), residing in Poland. He claimed the vacant Republic of Poland International middleweight title in September with a majority decision over the always game journeyman Bartlomiej Grafka.

Both men have tall lanky frames, could both probably campaign at light heavy if they added some bulk.

 

Ugly opener, Stretskyy clinching a lot, in between getting popped in the face with straight leads by the Georgian.

Team Pitbull already having to rapidly spin a towel in the face of Stretskyy, who's puffing in the corner after one round from the sheer effort of alternately tying up & wrestling, and getting lightly but frequently punched by Gogo.

 

Gogoberishvili showing off his versatility, switching orthodox for pretty much the whole second round, throwing Stretskyy's rhythm off. 1-2s from the righty stance can't miss for Gogoberishvili, seesawing on the ball of each foot at mid-range to keep himself in position to sway away from Stretskyy's counters, but he needs to mind his p's and q's as Stretskyy does manage to rock him with a line drive left hand lead.

Would be a humiliating upset for Stretskyy if he loses. Of course home cooking is there for a potential safety net as he's the "A side", but then again he isn't of Polish birth...

 

Better from Stretskyy in round three, slipping the long jabs of Gogo with full-body leans to either side, weaving in with sinuous motions and tagging Gogo's left cheek with a high right hook, then planting a left uppercut into his chest. Gogoberishvili kept on the run most of the round.

Gogo returning to his successful recipe from earlier, turning orthodox, controlling Stretskyy with that kilometer of left jab he's able to unroll from afar. Gogoberishvili manages to duck inside all of Stretskyy's charging right hooks for a quick grab & release, immediately resuming the jab & 1-2 attack once safely outside. Stretskyy not cutting the ring off well.

You guys saw the OP, right...? This is PolSat Extra, not Sport or Fight.

 

There have been a lot of decent amateurs who qualified for their country's Olympic teams and then (regardless of how they did in the Games, even including some bronze and silver medalists) completely fizzled in the pros. Stretskyy another on that list.
