this is the typical ESB ritual, people get a hard on when they see a highlight reel knockout and assume said fighter can take on god almighty himself. it truly is the mark of a true boxing newb. because notice how everyone's perception of maidana changed when he couldnt KO corley, and compare it to when he KO'ed ortiz. truly pathetic
Other than an early flash knockdown Gamboa wins every minute of the fight en route to a one sided schooling .
You right, some ppl here don't know $hit about boxing, just because PDL knock this guy out, it doesn't mean he can do the same against Gamboa or any other top fighter in 126lbs.
And you know boxing? Salido would mop the floor with PDL, and so far, Gamboa has won all his fight with easy, either by ko or wide, wide decisions.
This is actually a very interesting fight. I think Gamboa might be too much for De Leon, but PDL has a good chance to pull off and upset. But aside from the result, the fight it self would be entertaining for as long as it lasts. I really hope this fight gets made just for the heck of entertaining us.
So a guy that started his career at 15 years old, I think he loss 8 fights when he was a teenager, went 12 rounds in 2001 with La Cobrita Gonzalez and another 12 rounds with Juan Manuel Marquez in 2004, finally winning the IBF Belt at 27 or 28 years old, and he is a c fighter, and you call yourself a boxing fan, just because he looked slow against Gamboa it doesn't mean he is, Gamboa tend to make boxer look that way.
I voted wrong but anyways gamboa should win this fight. He is too fast for ponce but i give ponce a puncher's chance. He does throw a lot of punches from all angles so who know he could catch gamboa and put him to sleep.
First of all, Ponce de Leon is vastly improved from the Juanma debacle. (For the record, I thought he simply got caught cold in that one) I'd give him a helluva good chance against Gamboa, Juanma, or Caballero today, not only because of his strength and power but also because of his much improved defense. He isn't the one dimensional banger that Juanma and Celestino met up with before...With that said, Gamboa's unorthodox style and speed, Juanma's power and straight punching, and Caballero's range and stamina will mesh well with Ponce de Leon's newfound skills and, as always, his excellent power and will to produce really entertaining bouts. I don't think you can underestimate his ability to compete against those guys. Of the three, I'd say he matches up most favorably against Juanma in a rematch. As for Gamboa, well, Yuri could give him all sorts of problems because of his speed, but I don't doubt for a minute that if Ponce de Leon finds a home with that straight left and/or right hook, it'll be over quick for Gamboa.
Ponce doesn't have any new found skills really, Escalante was simply tailor made for him to get a nice ko and props to him on that. JuanMa,Caballero both easily beat him again.
Nah, I don't think so...But I'm with you about Escalante. However, he did exactly what he was supposed to against a fighter like Escalante.
