This one is off radar for most of the world, however this is yet another HUGE fight for Japan and Thailand. Legendary Thai fighter Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, the Flyweight of the Dacade with a stunning 17 succesful title defenses before losing a very close decision to Daisuke Naito in Japan, might get his last chance here. He's 32 with a record of 74-3-1 39KOs, 20-1-1 in world title fights and 2-1-1 vs. Naito, now holds the interim version of his former belt, and challenges the oldest of the Kameda brothers to take the WBC flyweight title back to Thailand.

Kameda, 23, 22-0; 14KOs, is one of the most popular fighters of the world based on ratings and fanbase, and was pretty impressive outboxing the same Naito a few months back, who by the way beat Koki's little brother Daiki in an infamous ugly fight right after he upset Pongsaklek. Koki got the revenge for the family and Daiki picked up the WBA belt earlier this year, so now two boxing brothers share world title belts, the others obviously being the Klitschkos. There's a third Kameda however, but it'll take a few years to see whether Tomoki can follow his brothers footsteps.

The fight will take place on the 27th at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo and will decide the fate of the lineal flyweight championship. This will be the first title defense for Kameda, who has the youth, possibly the speed and the crowd on his size. But Pongsaklek, who's past his best, still brings a lot of skills and a huge amount of experience to the ring. He fought in Japan several times before and only lost once, and he holds the record of the fastest flyweight championship bout in history, blowing out non other than Naito in 34 seconds in their first meeting. It will be an interesting clash of styles and the opportunity for Thailand to hit back at Japan for Daiki's recent victory over Denkaosan Kaovichit. But if Koki can get past Pongsaklek in convincing fashion, it will put him in high gear towards P4P recognition.

    Great fight!

  2. No Asian judges allowed for this fight. Seriously.

I have nothing but contempt for Jose Suliaman but his decision that there will be no Asian judges is a good one.

This way there is less chance of any controversy.

But that's the stunning statement from the WBC, just think about it... they pretty much admit that they can't guarantee their own Asian judges objectivity! There will be no Indonesian, Iranian, Kazakh, Mongolian, South-Korean, Saudi-Arabian etc. judges appointed, because they are... Asian?

Pong would have owned him in his prime...I still think he might be capable of pulling an upset but Im picking Koki to take the points verdict.

    Looking forward to this one.

Yeah, actually they would have been better off saying there would be no judges from the fighters home countries. Dismissing every judge from the continent does seem a bit extreme!

No Asian judges in a fight where 2 Asians are fighting?

    That makes sense...
