The standards and safeguards in America arent 100% perfect but a far better than Thailand.

Alatorre has a record that can be verified, ability that could have been witnessed on film and a decent amateur career behind him..A lot of Pong opponents do not have anything near that.

A decent chunk of the fighters that have passed away have fought in the lighter weight and not always against big punchers.

Only if he builds off his career with at least 15 tomatocans, but otherwise I don't think he will make it.

    I can agree here.

I just wanted to see your thoughts on this.

One of my biggest issues with boxing sometimes is that completely overmatched opponents are put in with dangerous world class guys. Like Ortiz vs Allatore is a little arguable, but not too bad considering what happens overseas more often than not with stay busy fights.

He could well do you know...still holds a belt, so some motivation to keep going there.

Will fight his 6th fight this year in October...if he wins, I could see him making it 7 before the year is out.

Hope he doesn't push it though.

As long as he keeps facing bums like the ones he's been facing lately, he sure can.

Its really the buisness side of boxing. There is not much at stake and its not like they are paying 60 $ per fight.
I would love to see RJJ beat the **** out of some nobodies like he did with Jeff Lacey.

Of course he will. He will just pad his record with fighters making their debut.

Edit : damn he has already fought 5 times this year and will fight Edgar Sosa next. Not bad.

It's a old school way of staying busy. Trust me him beating someone 1-3 isn't a big deal, but I can't help but respect that he tries his best to stay busy, and isn't afraid to go abroad when the chance at a big fight, against a legit opponent, comes around.

Pong has fought more good fighters and won, than he gets credit for.

    Classy bump my man.

When I posted this thread originally, I had no idea how active of a year 2011 would be for Pong, but 6-7 isn't bad at this point in his career.

I feel if he loses his title before he gets w # 90, he will most likely push on until he gets 100 at this point.

actually it is a big deal if people are making a fuss about your 100 win this late in the career. if he fought 3-4 real contenders a year along with 3-4 easy fights I wouldn't mind but not with just 1 legit defense and 4-5the super weak fights. its quite obvious he is taking the jcc route.

His record averages a 15:1 can to contender ratio, so its possible but he would have to fight at least one guy with a pulse on the way without getting sent into retirement.
