Always found it insane how fast promoters can throw a fight together in some parts of the world, literally within a few days. They always do that in places throughout Europe, the UK, most of Latin America and Thailand. "Own a pair of gloves? Good, be here tomorrow evening!".

 

How bad? Like he hasn't even been training occasionally for the past 5 years and just came back for a quick buck?

 

This is all I really have to actually contribute to this thread.... Some rarely seen footage of Prime back in his heyday, in bouts respectively from 1996 (!!!!) and 2003.

Pong is now so old he is literally from at least two full generations of fighters ago...

Wait, WHAT? Last I heard the JBC was like "nope, you can't fight Kameda, except in an exhibition" and we were waiting to hear whether or not that was going to go through.

boranbkk! I've been meaning to ask you... is there any way you can tell me what bout between Pong & Pahayahay I have? I believe they fought three times with Pong dropping a few? I can't even tell what happens at the end of the match, they have it off? I'm glad to have had the chance to pick up the footage years ago and keep it but I've still never understood what exact bout it is...

 

Ha...my first fight in Thailand, I'd only been in country 3 weeks, didn't know **** about how things worked in Bangkok. Massive language barrier I couldn't speak Thai then, broken English explanations from the grandson of the gym owner. No infrastructure for foreign fighters like there is now. Anyway, I was told around lunch time that I would be fighting that evening. No special venue, Soi 4 used to have a bar with a ring, they used to test new foreigners there to see what they've got. Anyway, arrived, was matched by approx height, no weigh in, 40 mins later was fighting.

 

I cant think of the fight or I may not have seen it. But if the footage is on YouTube I can translate the commentary that will probably explain all.

 

Stories like this are the reason I come onto internet forums.

I've heard similar stories to this regarding Thailand and Muay Thai before. Just some nightmare stuff. Basically anarchy and brutality on all levels from the frantic match making to the inevitable end where someone gets stretchered out of the arena by two non-medically trained guys on a shabby stretcher...
