He has to wait for this mess with Peter/Vitali/Maskaev to blow over, and while doing so, he's probably going to defend his status in the rankings and potentially lose. :verysad

From the title, I thought you were talking about Paulie Malignaggi and had invented a precocious "poo" insult about him.

    You disappoint me. :-(

On topic, I think you're probably right. At this rate, he won't get a title shot for at least a year yet; that creates a catch-22 where he either accumulates rust or risks losing to a younger boxer.

McCall is on a roll, he won't lose unless they put him in with a top 10 caliber opponent and I don't think that will happen

Its not like the Heavyweight division is on "fire" at the moment anyway. The way things are you'd have to give McCall an even chance against any of the top ten contenders.

I would bet significant money that McCall NEVER gets this shot he's supposed to.

I've looked into my crystal ball and see way to many legal manouvres/training camp injuries over the next 2 years for this to ever happen.

I can just see the supposed Maskaev/Peter/Vitlay thing rolling on for ever.

Maybe Oliver has realized this and that's why he's calling Vitali out. :think

McCall is only "in position" for a title shot due to insane sanctioning body politics. There is already a mandatory challenger who hasn't even fought yet and they are already promising shots to the "next in line".

And how many top 20 fighters has McCall beaten to "deserve" this title shot he has now been promised? Ummm, one, maybe? Beating Sam is a solid victory, but, the WBC is the only ABC that even has him in there top 15. Maybe he realistically cracks the back end of the top 20, barely.

He only has his shot because the WBC wanted to charge an extra fee to make this an "elimination" fight. McCall doesn't deserve a mandated shot at this point. So, let's not go crazy bemoaning how he is going to get screwed out of a title shot.

When it gets right down to it, how many fighters literally fight there way up the ranks these days? Wladimir didn't do much to earn an IBF title shot, Maskaev didn't, Briggs didn't. So I think McCall has pulled his weight just as much as anyone else.

Agreed on Maskaev, but, Wlad beat Sam Peter on his "comeback".

How stupid is the WBC to have a title eliminator, when they already have 2 mandatory challengers waiting ( Peter then Vitali) ?

To top it off , if you are going to have a title eliminator , why TF would pick Samil Sam and Mccall to fight!! Both have been fighting poor oppostion. It was a battle of fat and slow, vs old and slow , a never was vs a has been. Niether was deserving of a title eliminator, and I think they are having a rematch anyway.

Okay, he beat one ranked guy who didn't even do anything at the time. McCall has done the same thing with Samil, so I don't see how these two cases are any different.

And speaking of Sam Peter, what has HE done to not only earn a title shot, but to be mentioned as number 2 heavyweight in the world? Beat James Toney?

Oh please , Mcall won a close decision over Samil Sam, who was even fat compared to his own standards. I didnt see the fight but most seemed to think the fight was utter ****. Sam is no were near an elite fighter.

Juan Carlos Gomez exteremely easily beat both Sam and Mccall.

I agree. McCall has been told he's got a titleshot, but the WBC mandatories waiting to get in there with Oleg are now three deep.....now that McCall has also been promised a WBC titleshot

Promising Peter, then Vitali, then McCall, ALL THREE are granted titleshots. That's kind of rediculous. :blood

Maskaev's list of things to do is growing by the day.
