His surname was taken to honor his sponsor, Kratingdaenggym (Red Bull Gym), the largest supporter of boxers in Thailand and greatly revered for their assistance to those involved in the sport. Like many Thai fighters, Poonsawat is forever identified by his fighting name. Only his family knows him by his given name – Prakorb Udomna.
One of the toughest fighters out there, his head is made of granite and his fists of titanium. Height wise he's very small in his weight class but he puts combinations together so nicely and with his power, few can stick to their game plan once they start getting hit. His boxing skills are underrated aswell, the guy can box when he wants. A fight between him and Nishioka/Hasagawa would be amazing. I just hope he doesn't continue defending his title against the lesser known Japanese fighters for the forseeable future, because that's the way his title reign has started.
Great little fighter, had the pleasure of watchinh him fight in the O2 in Dublin against Bernard Dunne, unfortunately though he knocked the **** outta dunne and took his title. He's a solid fighter and by all accounts a very humble and pleasant guy. Clearly the best in his division at the moment and I think he could do a number on one or two of the featherweights if he were to move up in weight. I'm a fan anyway. His name means red bull gym. Which I presume means red bull have a stable of Thai fighter under the banner of 'Red Bull Gym'.
