The GBP part is good news.

    American TV needs Poon!

Poonsawat is a tank. I've seen his last three fights live, and he is a very exciting fighter. Moving up though is foolish. He should stay at 122.

Yeah, it's possible there could have been a mix up. A unification match with Molitor seems much more logical than a fight with Luevano.

yeah it seems they got the wrong steve.

poonsawat wouldn't move up to 126 as he'd be too small.

golden boy need champs, so why would they move him up?

poonsawat has a great style for US television. short, compact, fast hands, great stamina. if golden boy can get him the fights, then this will be great.

molitor is a gifted boxer, and he can try to redeem himself from the caballero defeat, in unification. the man has his title back and he has something to prove, so he might be willing.

the best showcase would be antonio escalante, who was rated #1 for poonsawat's title before suddenly moving up in weight. escalante is a brave, exciting rowd pleaser. in fights vs escalante, and maybe ponce de leon, golden boy could perhaps keep the WBA title fights in-house.

ricado cordoba is supposed to have been promised a shot by the WBA. poonsawat edged cordoba in a great fight about 5 years ago in thailand. brutal 12 rounder. poonsawat is on the better form now, however, and he has gained so much snap since moving up to super bantam...this would be another good fight.

some good bantamweights as well. might be in poonsawat's best interests to do a vazquez. wait for the best bantams to move up and challenge him. yohnny perez, joseph agbeko and abner mares are fighters who have been on showtime. perez, the champ (IBF) at 118, looks like a weight drained fighter to me. i think perez will lose his title if he continues making 118 pounds - he is seriously losing the snap from his punches and looks to have a big build for 118. i think perez won't get the big money until he has rematches or rubber matches with agbeko or mares. who knows, maybe he'll move up and challenge the thai.

hozumi hasegawa is another big bantam, was looking an outstanding fighter before being dethroned in shocker vs montiel. maybe montiel wants to be a record 4 weight champ, and challenge a small 122-pounder in poonsawat?

poonsawat is in the right weight to make his name (the gritty super bantam class) and it looks like he's in the right country to get him the best opponents.

Steve couldn't do anything of consequence in that match-up, in the sense that his opponent would still have a far more awesome name.

Hope GBP's curse can't touch the Thai. :D

Moving up seems not the best direction for the Thai unless he's having a hard time making 122.

he's not moving up, in all likeliness. luevano would have to come down to fight him, but luevano apparenlty hasn't even heard of poonsawat, they are with rival promoters that don't get on (arum and oscar) and the weights don't make sense.

i think they meant steve molitor. i did read a news report that mentioned luevano, but i believe it's a mix up in the asian press (kind of like pavlik said he might be fighting "brian rose", when he meant "ryan rhodes" was on a short list). molitor being a rival champ at 122. this makes sense, as molitor has a chance to get a big win, vs someone who isn't as scary as caballero.

Molitor is far more reasonable an opponent than Luevano. The latter would of course net much higher reward but for much larger risk.

not much reward in fighting luevano because he has no title. no sense in a non title matchup with someone who's just been beaten down.
