    Here's a brief report.

    By Joe Koizumi
Unheralded underdog Retsuri Lee (AKA Ryol-Li Lee; 17-1-1, 8 KOs), 121.75, astoundingly captured the WBA super-bantam belt as he was awarded a unanimous decision (115-113, 115-114 and 118-110) over highly regarded defending champ Poonsawat Kratingdaeng-gym (41-2, 29 KOs), 122, over twelve upset rounds on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. Lee, a Japan-born Korean, kept moving and countering the aggressive champ who kept stalking the elusive target all the way. Poonsawat, making his fourth defense, failed to catch the Fancy Dan although he threw twice as many punches as the counterpunching challenger. (More to come)

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person to get them mixed up.

    Pascal-Dawson :deal

But it's a pretty big upset on it's own, like Burns-Martinez, Montiel-Hasegawa, Tamara-Viloria, K9-Spinks or Segura-Calderon. Also, you could mention Martinez-Pavlik, Pongsaklek-Kameda, Mabuza-Holt, Uchiyama-Salgado, Rosas-Nongqayi, Jacobs-Pirog, Green-Jones, Dirrell-Abraham, Katsidis-Mitchell, Joyi-Garcia, and if the judges weren't blind, we could've added Kotelnik-Alexander, Mora-Mosley, Cintron-Williams, Dan-Aydin and our members say, Soto-Munoz as well. Now some of these don't even seem like solid upsets, but believe me, the winners were clear underdogs both here and at the bookies.

Well Goddamn, it seems we did have a busy year after all and the best part is still ahead of us.

    Joyi-Garcia, Katsidis-Mitchell and Uchiyama-Salgado were considered upsets? :think:blood

Lee's win over Poon is the upset of the year so far certainly.

In the sense of the vast majority plus the bookies predicted the other guy to win (and not by a close margin), I'd consider them upsets. Obviously not in the league of Lee-Poon, but we could still consider them minor upsets. The way Pascal, Martinez, or Tamara won, now those were definitely major upsets in my book.
