Yeah, I've seen just about all of the fights of all the guys you mentioned, except Ruiz. And I've seen a few of his. And I've only seen Wlad KO'd due to chin issues ONCE. (You could review the Brewster and Purity fights and get back to me if you don't feel the dude ran ouuta gas, like big George did in Kinshasa} I've seen Lennox KO'd twice, more devastatingly, and by guys with less power. And I've seen Ruiz right out, dreaming. So I'll stand by my position. Wlad does not have an iron chin like Ali, or McCall or Cobb. And neither does Lewis. But both men have adequate chins that are far above that of the average pro heavyweight. The 'chin-checkers ' just love to exaggerate. BTW, I'm havin bad thoughts in stereo about your sisters-in-law. Can't help it.
How many times was Wlad's ass on the canvas against Sanders? Or Peter? I just can't see the man having anything but a mediocre chin. Sure, his recovery is good, he always gets up. But how does that qualify as a good chin as opposed to good heart? Also, Marion Wilson said that he hardest he ever hit was against... wait for it... Rahman and Briggs. Guess what other fighters Rahman fought? Andrew Golota 2x, Ray Mercer, Jimmy Thunder, Kirk Johnson, David Izon 2x, Ike Ibeabuchi, Greg Page, Derrick Jefferson, Corey Sanders, Oliver McCall 2x, Oleg Maskaev, Sam Peter. So on and so forth. Ass never on the canvas. Rahman was a roided' up freak who nearly decapitated Lennox, the likes of every power puncher in the 90's including Vitali didn't even come close to doing that to Lennox. Rahman sparked him out. We're talking about a guy who put up 600 pounds or some such bench pressing. The man hit disgustingy hard by all accounts, Rahman had the same effect on Sanders as Vitali, that much is obvious. Rahman fought a younger, fresher Sanders as well.
As I've stated already, not a direct measure of chin. Getting KO'd IS. Wlad was down three or four times against Sanders. All of that stemmed back to the first big shot where he was seriously stunned. But he got up three or four more times. You seem to be giving Lennox more credit for getting his ass totally creamed with ONE shot. If he'd made it to his feet a few time, then folks could say HOW MANY TIMES WAS LENNOX DOWN AGAINST RAHMAN ? That crude mother****er just clubbed the back of Wlad's head. Most of those KD were illegal punches. (I will say, however, that getting sparked by Sanders has changed the way Wlad fights. He's lost some of his erstwhile confidence. The Sanders KO led directly to the disgrace of a fight we saw between Wlad and Oleg, A fight that shoul not have gone more than two. This is a good thing if you want to keep seeing Wlad win. It's a bad thing if you crave pugilistic excitement.) The telling feature of the shot Rahman used to take down Lewis is that Lewis didn't see it coming. BOOM ! To clarify, and summarize: I'm not saying Wlad has a great chin. (I would probably say Vitali has but that's another story.) All I'm saying is that I've only seen him KO'd cleanly ( and it was a TKO at that) ONCE due shots to the head. I've seen him dumped two other times but both were clearly stamina issues, which he appears to have worked on since. So from the evidence of one chin failure, in the face of one of the biggest hitters in the game ( whether Sanders is ahead or behind Tua is not the main issue), I dispute the popular stereotype of Wlad being chinless. If he had his brother's chin, and mean streak, combined with his own talents, he (or they) would have the makings of an ATG heavyweight.
Touch of Sleep knocked down Wladimir, guys like 210 pounds. That fight ended on a TD stoppage. Want to say Jefferson shook him up as well. Anyhoo, Lennox had guys like Bruno, Briggs, Mason land CLEAN on him. Some of the shots Vitali nailed him with? Not shots Wlad could eat. Wlad has been for half of his career, when he actually started facing world class opposition, safety first. Lennox was very wild for half of his career and he got hit, a lot. How can he have a inferior or even equal chin to Wlad when he took monster shots Wlad never has?
Is putting Quarry over Shavers here being unfair to Quarry? He didn't have a great chin but I'm not sure I'd call it "poor" either.
have to agree. jerry's chin was very good. he stood toe to toe with frazier for 7 and in his prime, he could take a hit. it definitely wore down with age
Junior Jones>Marco Antonio Barrera x2 Fred Fulton>Sam Langford Patterson>Moore Maurice Harris>James Thunder
Bad call on my part. Not a huge fan of his and I remember him mainly from being the Frazier and Ali losses. It blew me away the first time I saw him stop Shavers.
