yo that was one of the worse things that ive ever seen happen inside of a boxing ring live (as it was happened not as a recording)

all mallig wanted to do was finish the fight and finish with his pride.. but stupid as mcgirt threw in the towel.. i feel like for someone like pauli who is such a proud fighter that he would rather get knocked out then for the towel to be thrown in.... it was so damaging that he was on the verge of tears inside the ring...

i feel horrible for him and hope he is able to continue on the same as a fighter.. this may have damaged his pride in the worse way

I was surprised Buddy did that. I mean, Paulie wasn't hurt that badly. For christ sake, he let Arturo Gatti go through teh 9th round of his first fight with Ward and let him out for Round 10.

    Agreed!!!

Hatton was pretty much owning his ass but mcgirt had no right throwing in the towel, he wasn't in serious trouble and could have seen the full 12 through!

Some responsibility does lie with bayliss, a ref can refuse the towel if he feels the fighter is not hurt enough!

i think a mans pride is one of the most dangerous things that can be broken ... it is enough to make a man change the way he thinks.. for mcgirts stupid ass to stop the fight when pauli WAS indeed getting beat up .... but he was never at any point in any type of serious danger... maybe in spurts but he was definitely going the distance and thats something you can atleast walk away from the ring holding your head high about...... and mcgirt stole that from him

i hate mcgirt so much for doing that .... and feel horrible for pauli

I agree, but he was getting busted up, everybody including there mother knew that he wasn't going to knock out Hatton, so why take a chance. This is the hurt business, one punch could is all that it takes. I'd rather see emotional and deflated Paulie, than an unhealthy one. I am not the biggest PM fan, but he gave a good effort, his a good kid at heart, and I am sure he'll rebound back.

I think the situation is even though the Cotto fight was a worst beating, Paulie was very much in the fight

He wasnt in the fight at all, there was no chance of a W

**** his pride, his health is what he'll care about later in life.

McGirt told him he was going to do it, then when Paulie just got tagged again and showed nothing he did it.

If he didn't want it stopped, his stupid assed pride should have fought back.

It's easy to say he shouldn't have been pulled out, but he had zero chance of winning.

And by the 11th round, Paulie was throwing nothing and just looking to survive. Now imagine Hatton floors Paulie and he hits his head on the bottom rope and sustains a bad injury, you telling me it would have been worth it for the chance that Paulie could have gone 12 rounds?

McGirt did the right thing, it's a dangerous sport and no good would have come from keeping Paulie in there.

Hatton was way ahead on points, and with Malignaggis` ko record, what`s the point,Hatton was always the 140lb best of anyway.Buddy McGirt did the right thing.

he was not nearly taking as much damage as the undercard fight...

theres a billion fights i could probably name where the ass whipping was 1000 x worse and nobody talked or thought about stopping it....

    that was horrible
