Tbh Paulie didn't deserve to finish the fight...all he was doing was clinging on to survive...He wasn't trying to box and coming off second best, he was scared of Hatton's power from the 2nd round onwards and I think it is an important lesson that Buddy has taught him...

For me personally I would rather try and fight and be KO'd then just cling on and not even throw a punch. I think there is a lot more pride to be had in that. Paulie's a tough guy and a good guy but that isn't how you fight in probably the biggest fight of your career.

the point of fighting is trying to win, paulie wasn't. it's different if you're holding on to try and take a close points win, but malignaggi was holding on to try and survive without throwing back, hatton was beating (super fast, super slick paulie) him to the punch.

Didn't see the fight.. Did PM do a post fight interview?

Like I said I didn't see it but if PM couldn't help himself who was going to? Don't hate the trainer hate the game.. Sounds like he just got beat and couldn't do anything about it. You should be more upset with PM for not saving his own ass.

pauli isnt even a ko fighter so what the hell else is he supposed to do

from now on i look at mcgirt as a quiter that proves how much of a loser mcgirt is because he would rather give up on his fighter than let him get beat up for 6 more minutes when he is really ok.. training/coaching is an extentions of ones knowledge & personality when in the ring/court/field/arena and because of that from now on i can only look at mcgirt as a loser

This is ridiculous you can't throw all the blame on the trainer after his fighter had round after round after round after round to do something for themselves. He gave instruction! He warned of a stoppage? I read Hatton won every round after the 1st.

he was losing badly... but he wasnt getting beat up badly...

there was not a point where he was incoherent-badly physically damaged- unresponsive-unaware of his surroundings.

he was just losing and his trainer quit on him because mal wasnt competing at a high level

because at that point all mal wanted to do was make it out of the fight with his pride and he couldnt even have that.... you dont quit on your fighter for no reason... it wasnt like mal was getting brutalized out there... he was just losing badly according to the score.. took a coupe great shots here and there but it wasnt anything that hadnt been seen before... it was a wack stoppage and a poor display of training in my opinion

McGirt should have let him finish the fight. He was losing the fight wide, but it wasnt near a bad ass whooping. He could have finished, pride intact no harm no foul.

there were times he looked like he was going to get knocked out... but he wasnt... mcgirt should know this better than anyone as his trainer..

if he made it threw 12 against cotto with a broken face..
he would have been fine against hatton....

    whos in denial?

Not really. He got stunned a few times but he took a shot from Hatton in the 9th round or so, and it was the hardest shot he took in the fight and just stuck his tongue out showing he was fine. He wasnt hurt at all, thus the fight shouldnt have been stopped.

McGirt said something like 'If you don't do what I say I'll stop the fight'
Then Paulie came out and was just in survival mode and taking shots.
What is the point in that?
It's not even a pride thing as he was holding and not even trying to win or fight anymore.

the pride is being able to say you made it the distance with a p4p & one of the better fighters of his time

knowing hes not a soldier and he can walk out on his own two

some of you guys really dont understand what sports is about...

pauli was fully capable of making it out and making it out safely physically and mentally

The fight should not have been stooped.. PM was losing, but he wasn't taking a brutal beating. I know he had no chance to win, but sometimes going the distance is a moral victory of sorts.

NO - McGuirt did Paulie a favor. He was getting punished. He was quite possibly on the verge of going down under a barrage of punches. Hatton was coming on stronger and stronger as the fight went on. Paulie was saved from a trip to the emergency room. Sometimes the corner knows best. He still has his pride because he did not go down.
