Emanuel Steward made a bad mistake when he handled amateur star Michael Bent for Bent's professional debut. Jones was a lanky, awkward, 6'4 or 6'5 guy. In good shape and with good power. This content is protected
On the flip side Jones went up high in the weights and had a go. Guys like Monzon and Hagler never ventured to Light Heavyweight let alone Heavyweight.
Jones was decent. He also upset Carl "The Truth" Williams in '92. Bent was a good fighter, as well. He was a noted amateur. Because of the loss to Jones, a lot of people then started to underrate Bent. It's funny how one loss will cause boxers to be written off. So, when he caught Morrison cold and caused the upset, many were shocked. But, in retrospect it wasn't all that shocking. Basically, both Jones and Bent could fight. The loss to Jones did cause to many to doubt Bent, but it was early on in his career and certainly didn't ruin him as a fighter. And, he probably learned from the fight. In the short term, it may have been a bad move, but, in the long run, didn't really hurt him.
True. That big hookercut that he loved to throw left him no only wide open to counters but it put him off balance even more. Razor seemed to have trouble relaxing in the ring. Good athlete though.
Funny there is a youtube clip where Holyfield is hanging out w Bowe and another guy and saying how pissed he was at Riddick for ducking Bowe because at that time that Bowe would have beaten him in Evander's opinion .. This content is protected
