I'm not ignoring your opinion but am saying that it's pretty convenient that all three judges scored the fight the same relatively and it's also just a coincidence that the central figure behind the production is also Thurman's advisor. It's like wrapped up in a neat little bow, so convenient! Typically close fights have don't have all three judges voting unanimously...
I thought Porter won too but it was close and it may look different to the judges ringside. Porter was the busier more aggressive fighter and backed Thurman up more.
Porter controlled the fight with his jab, out threw, outlanded, and mauled Thurman for the majority of the fight. Not sure what Thurman's gameplan was. Did virtually nothing with his jab and had no idea how to clinch on the inside
Thurman won the fight but lost the battle taking a beating in the ropes clinching and holding a lot he will have a sore body for few days I doubt a rematch soon.
I had it 5-4 Porter with three rounds even. So if the judges gave Keith the three even rounds they would get 7-5, which is what all three had. Disagree with the decision, but it is well within reason.
Funny you say he had no idea how to clinch on the inside yet a bunch of people here are crying about Thurman clinching all night. I had Thurman winning by the exact same score as the judges. My thing is this to be the champion you have to beat the champion and any rounds that are too close to call should go to the champ. If you dont clearly win the fight you should not get the decision over the champion. Could Porter of won more rounds last night? Possibly. But he did not clearly separate himself as the winner of the fight.
The ol' "you have to really beat the champion" theory. Explain that to Carlos Zarate, Marvin Hagler, or Greg Haugen.
No, he didn't. Porter smothered a lot of his punches and was swinging wildly from time to time. Thurman controlled the majority of that bout, and on a few occasions Porter did get to him. Having said that, Porter either lost steam in the 11th and 12th round, or Thurman's big shots forced him to take it easy in those last two rounds. Porter needs a new trainer. His dad offered him ZERO advice in the corner. If he had worked Thurman's body, he may have worn him down and stopped him. No one to blame but himself. Right man won. End of story.
I had Porter up 115-113 but I concede that a case could absolutely be made the the opposite. To be the champ you have to beat the champ! But had porter stepped a little more up I could see it 116-112 for him (But even still I see how people have Thurman up) great fight! Hope to see the rematch!
I had Porter winning, he hurt Thurman more and forced the action while landing the greater number of shots. Thurman was on his bicycle playing keep away at times.
