Pacquiao would easily beat Porter may even knock him out, what are Porter's best wins. He struggled to beat Julio Diaz, Khan beat him more decisively. Alexander is overrated, Tim was overwhelming and swarming him long before Porter did. Porter was a stylistic nightmare for Paulie, he stance left him wide open for all of Porter's vicious hooks. Porter could have troubles with Bradley and Rios. Based on his proclivity to charge his opponents JMM could KO him, its way too soon to put him in the ring with Manny. Thurman has a weak chin, which might leave Porter an opening, but if he charges Keith and gets caught hard, it will change his gameplan and make him gunshy.
I have to disagree with you. And him struggling against someone is irrelevant if they don't have the same style as the opponent we're hypothetically matching him against. You're making excuses for Porter's wins and he even admitted he copied Bradley's gameplan against Alexander. I think Porter-Pacquiao would be competitive match up. I also don't think he'd struggle with Rios, maybe Bradley though. Remember, Porter can switch his style up and he's implemented good gameplans so far.
This post is good. Danny Garcia has already been exposed. It's not like when we watch Floyd it will be a big surprise(sometimes watching a star fighter get exposed by Floyd is fun, as he shows it can be done or how to do it). Danny couldn't have fixed his mistakes since then, not long enough ago. Danny prob gets jabbed to death.
I'm not saying Porter isn't good, I'm saying people need to calm down about him, anytime someone wins a match against a mediocre opponent, Its bring on Pacquiao and Mayweather, they are the best for a reason and I don't see Porter on either of their levels yet. Maybe someday he can be great but its too soon to tell. It is relevant him struggling with styles that don't fit him, guys tend to lose when they come up against a style clash. Pacquiao, Bradley, Thurman, and JMM pose potential struggles for him. Rios is being written off far to easily on this Forum, fine he is not a great boxer, has few skills, but tends to win if he can turn the match into a slugging contest which he may if he fought Porter. Rios' chin is probably better than Alexander's and Diaz as well.
Pacquiao will have the heart to fight him unlike certain other fighters . Not to mentioned , Manny is very familiar with everything that Porter brings . The Scary thing is , it goes both ways .
And, no offense to Porter, but doesn't he remind you of Leon Spinks? I am sure he is a lot sharper but the looks are similar. (Sorry, Shawn lol)
My thoughts exactly. Shawn has had years to advance from where he was. Sparring an all time great at the age of 19 and hanging in there (a prime pac about to fight cotto aka nightmare fuel) is a great accomplishment. Sure manny might whoop him...But what if he doesnt? What if he remembers the mistakes he made and with the changes he brings to the table he is able to beat manny? At this point in time Manny and Floyd should be fighting young and hungry lions. They win, the fought the best doing it. They lose they would be doing the sport a favor by passing the torch. Boxing needs new stars.
We forget how quickly the turnover is. It only seems like the superstars have been superstars for a long time because of the way we perceive the current crop. We forget that the superstars have not been superstars, really, for that long. To give you an idea, just glance back over the HBO fights since inception. High turnover in boxing, for the most part. http://www.hbo.com/boxing/fights/2013#/boxing/fights/2014.html
