I have a slightly different take, while I will say yes Yarde probably gained some fans you also have to take in to consideration that..

Kovalev is from Russia, a place with a huge population and people all over the world, Kovalev has a big fanbase so the 1 million views doesn't and won't make Yarde a "Star".

Lots of people will have wanted to watch that BT Sports clip to see Yarde get flattened, lots of people dislike Yarde and Tunde.

Some people, Mainly Yarde fans are going way over the top, yes he did better than expected, he won how many rounds? Two?

Yarde himself, Tunde and FW all said similar things.. that Kovalev was old and his time was over. So they believed this was a poor version of Kovalev, so they cant turn around now and pretend this was a good version of Kovalev and claim some sort of moral victory for Yarde average performance FFS.

This was a 36 year old Champion, with plenty of miles on the clock, had/maybe still has Alcohol issues and looks very close to being shot in my opinion.

So people need to calm down, Yarde was ultimately knocked out by a jab by a fighter at the very end of his career.

The only reason in my opinion they took this fight and didn't take the Canelo step aside money was firstly because they believed Kovalev was done, secondly they know Yarde isn't beating any of the other champions and if he didn't take this chance it was 10x harder going any other route.

We will see what happens now, we are going to have the long "Rebuild", so probably around 12-18 months of fighting bang average fighters before another world title shot.

And it also depends if he goes back to the WBO, I wouldn't advise him targeting any of the other champions, he would get smashed to pieces.

Bottom line, half decent effort, lost to an old man, knocked out by a jab and his fans can enjoy 12-18 months of fighting bang average fighters while Team Yarde skins them for their money.

Yards 4th best win ktfo Isufi Isuferson

Isuferson had Billy Joe Saunders out on his feet in a world of trouble. That happened to be for a WBO strap ffs.

If Yarde had fought such a low level of opposition how the f can Billy drug addict Joe call himself a champion. He is just a cheating chump.

Strange that on a boxing forum Yarde's stock has apparently massively gone up. In the wider world most people still don't have a clue.

It's obvious that a lot of people on here live in some sort of mad boxing bubble without a clue what's going on outside it. This weekend was a massive one for sport in this country and Yarde was miles down that list. People in the pub yesterday were talking about Man Utd getting beat by Palace, Spurs getting beat by Newcastle, and all topped off by a match in the cricket which some are calling the best ever. Some nobody like Yarde getting chinned in Russia? Not just behind all them but adrift of the England rugby union game and the Challenge Cup.

The notion that 'every casual' is now thinking more highly about Yarde is hilarious. They're all still pondering how Jack Leach survived and none of Stokes sixes were caught.

I can very much see Yarde having the same kind of appeal as Chris Eubank Jr.

He will be a big name and do good numbers, even though its clear he isnt ever going to reach the elite level.

Yarde is a hell of a lot better than we gave him credit for, and there are some great domestic matches now for him. I dont want to see him going back the international bum circuit though, that would be a waste of the recognition he has built through this loss.

At world class level I think that Yarde gets done on volume and activity more times than not, unless that world class opponent gets careless. The philly shell defence and his approach screams of a fighter who is going to lose on points everytime, unless he is able to knock his opponent out.

The world level fighters will have the boxing skills and chin to be able comfortably beat Yarde. It doesnt matter whether he changes his trainer or not, because at 28 he is what he is at this point.

I think you've got a point here. Perhaps if Yarde was a Sky fighter, he'd have gained more fans. Not sure it's true about sports fans generally.

Fair comment. Only one I don't necessarily agree with is that"a lot of people don't like yarde" I think as a personality he's ok, in fact I like him. But i do think A lot of people wanted to see him beat, mainly because of the nonsense he was spouting in relation to tundes training system.

I would agree to a sense but because Yarde has so little amateur experience and started boxing late, he could still learn beyond 28 years old.

Saxa-man Hayers does have a point though - boxing is for all and intents and purposes a niche sport.

In fact, it's been one for a quite a while, and seems to be losing some hard-won ground it got back from MMA of late.

For all his Malaga Time-Share salesman routine, Hearn is needed to actually effectively promote it, particularly with the football season just starting back as well.

Fury could have helped this out massively; but is having the exact opposite effect fighting bums on PPV.

Also a fair comment, where I live in London, anybody I speak to doesn't like him, so maybe I'm in a bit of a bubble.

I agree completely about Tunde, he is the figure most wanted to see fail and they will continue to want to see him fail if he doesn't change his attitude.. which I don't think he will.
