I am talking about from Mayweather's point of view. I know this fight is starting to be talked about (admittedly only a little) But I honestly can't see why Floyd would take this fight. The positives 1. People would give him credit now for fighting a big scary fighter, one of the biggest punchers in the sport. 2. It would enhance his legacy a little, but not much The negatives 1. GGG is much bigger than Floyd and in my opinion is 75% likely to knock him out 2. GGG is still not a big enough name, I really believe a lot of casuals still don't know who he is. 3. IF Floyd wins, as I mentioned earlier, despite this being a HUGE win, in the future this win will make very little difference to his legacy, compared to the likes of Pacman, Hatton and others (just my opinion) 4. IF Floyd wins, everybody will say that GGG was just a hyped fighter and had never fought anybody on the elite level. I really cannot see any reason why Floyd should take this fight.
If the fight takes place at MW, I think it will definitely help his legacy. Look how much credit Robinson gets for moving up to LHW and fighting Maxim. Floyd moving up to fight Golovkin at MW is the equivalent IMO. If Floyd actually won the fight, more people would take his TBE label seriously. Floyd is a great fighter, but most people see his TBE label as a marketing tool. If the fight took place at 154, it's a different story. Now we are in Leonard vs. Lalonde territory. It would be a big fight and Floyd would make a lot of money, but there would always be an asterisk next to the win.
I can't see the fight happening but, if it does, it must be at 154 surely. Can't see Floyd going up to middle. In fact, Floyd would probably ask for a 152 catchweight
A fight at 154 or below is just a money grab. To me that's the worse thing Floyd could do. He puts himself in a no win situation against a dangerous opponent. Now of course his chances of winning go down at MW, but he would be in a win/win situation. That hasn't happened for him in a long time. At the end of the day, I don't see the fight happening either as I don't believe there is enough motivation there for Floyd. But, if he is really motivated by the fight, then doing it at MW is the best way to go.
What is wrong with 154? Golovkin said he'd fight anyone in the 154-168 range. Plus Floyd could barely get above 150 lbs much less anywhere near 160.
Floyd cant even make 160 . He weighted less that Pacquiao in their last fight. why the hell would he fight ggg? he would get no credit. Excuses: drained, ,green, injured, judges, referee , gloves, usada, run, hug,
If Golovkin were a huge draw and/or a fighter with standout credentials, a fight at 154 would be fine. That's just not the case here. It doesn't matter what Golovkin says now, if Mayweather fights him at 154 and wins, then he simply beat a drained fighter fighting a weight he's never made as a pro. We don't even know what kind of career Golovkin will end up having. He looks like a terrific fighter, but he doesn't have any marquee wins. Now, if the fight takes place at MW even if Golovkin never does anything else in his career, people will remember the fight for Mayweather jumping up two weight classes to fight well above his walking around weight. If he actually wins, then it becomes one of those accomplishments that everyone talks about for years to come. Again, look how everyone talks about Robinson fighting Joey Maxim. Does anyone even care about how good Maxim was? No, the only care that he held a title and that Robinson was outweighed by like 15 lbs. at the weigh in.
Positive: Void get's smashed. Negative: Floyd will duck and make up excuses to duck.Even th0 he has neveda judges, usada in his corner.
I think people really underestimate how huge this would be for Floyd. Now i hate floyd and think hes a *** but that being said. If he fought GGG even at 154 you have to give him credit period! If he wins the fight imo i give him full cred because GGG is the real deal,is in his prime and NOBODY WANTS TO FIGHT HIM! If floyd moved up to 160 to fight GGG and won? His legacy goes to a new level and would continue to do so everytime GGG won any big fights in the future. A win vs GGG at 160 would become a thing of legend and youd have to start considering Floyd among the greats which right now frankly he is not.
The thing about casuals is, they ma y not have heard about GGG. But if they were made aware of him, i.e. his KO% and clips during the pre fight build up, they would be excited for the fight. GGG is an easy sell. People want to see KO's and aggressive fighters.
Floyd should go in at the weight he feels he's at optimal level and let GGG come in at his. It's not just about GGG's power he has the world captivated it's his style too. He's beating alot of 2nd tier opponents, but they ain't no bums. Floyd was taller than Canelo he's only 1-2 inches shorter than GGG, winnable fight for Floyd.
Yes I did. I'll explain why in very simple terms. You and I as boxing fans, obviously knowing that beating GGG at 154 lbs would be a much greater victory than beating Hatton. But, this is what you will hear if Floyd beats him 1) GGG had never fought anyone, he was never elite 2) GGG was drained, Floyd called all the shots 3) Floyd wouldn't let GGG use his gloves 4) Floyd just simply beat a hype train Secondly, when Mayweather fought Hatton, how many people knew him? Biggest boxing name in England since Lennox Lewis. He also had a very decent following in America. Today i asked 5 friends at work who are causal boxing fans (3 british, 2 american) what they think about Mayweather maybe fighting GGG. 4 of them asked "who is that?" and one asked "is it that spanish kid?" These are the same friends who all know: Khan, Timothy Bradley, Shaun porter, Kelly brook etc Will GGG really add much to his legacy? I can already see the reasons people will say GGG lost
