Haven't heard any conversation about this..I think this would be a Fight of the century type of match-up...dont know if the weights would be an issue..ward would prolly have to move down and he didnt want to move up against dawson or fight at a catch weight what do u think?
There was talk of Ward moving up in weight, but I'd rather Sergio fight another 168 fighter instead of going to the top dog straight away.
Looks good on paper, but I wonder how tactical a fight this would be....Martinez might be too small to put up a good fight. But I'd rather see Sergio go UP 8 pounds (although he wouldn't have to actually add any weight) than go DOWN to 154 or lower (!) to fight Floyd.
Sergio isn't in a bad spot then. Move up and there's a star Slick Black American. Move down and there's a star Slick Black American. Both who happen to be dominating the sport too
That's Chavez Jr. size, so it definitely is doable but I remember Sergio saying 168 was too big when Hopkins challenged him about a year ago. I'd rather see a catch weight. Dawson came down for Ward- Ward should prove he's just as game.
If it was to happen I'd like a catchweight 164, meet halfway. And in Vegas, not in Oakland. Ward made Dawson come down in weight so it'd be a bit much for him to expect Martinez to come up to his weight. Anyway, Martinez was thinking of going to 154 after this, he is a small middleweight so him going up to 168 would be a big swing (14lbs), esp against the best in the division. I think Martinez will be looking down the scale towards Mayweather, he might have as good of if not better chance of winning against Mayweather than against Ward, plus more exposure/money for that fight if it did happen.
Weight wouldn't be the problem for Sergio, here. Ward probably weighs less on fight night than Junior did last night. However, there's a huge step-up in skill level from Junior to Andre.
Sergio isn't moving up. He has said before he is truly a JrMW who was pushed to move up and didn't have to move up based on weight/size. Plus, Financially, it makes more sense to secure fights at 154 with Alvarez, Cotto, Chavez Jr. rematch at 160, Mayweather (which I doubt), Pac (which isn't happening) And Ward has made it clear that "history" doesn't matter as far as needing to move up and fight the best. It's better to just stay where you are.
If Martinez is interested in fighting guys like Floyd and Cotto(e), Sexy Sergio(e) looks a bit silly if he refuses to fight Ward
