So I've been watching and toying around with different fighting styles and the one that feels most comfortable to me is just how Ali fights. I'm a taller guy and I'm very flighty, I have to be moving while I punch. However I know that Ali's style is one that isn't necessarily teachable, even though it feels more comfortable to me. Do you think it would be wise to at least attempt to learn his style? I know I won't master it quite like he did, but I honestly prefer it over a high hands, flat footed style.
well how long have you been boxing? if you arnt a well experienced or are very good yet then don't attempt it. I attempted trying to be like cotto, because im a short stocky guy who likes to go for the body. It doesn't work, attempting to be like someone else just makes you worse, build your style around the fundamentals of boxing and it'll change into what your really most comfortable with.
Just do wats easyest for you, dont try to be like someone else. just be yourself when you train and your natural style will come through.
Train for the Ali style if you wanna get KTFO. Remember Ali had a monster chin to back up all those times he got hit FLUSH. Boxing isn't about what feels right for you. It's about learning what works, avoiding what doesn't work, and training yourself to be comfortable with it.
The problem with Ali's style, if you don't "master" it, you'll end up with a subdural hematoma. He did everything wrong. His footwork was wrong, he threw every punch except his straight right incorrectly, his defense was wrong. He got away with it because he had incredible reflexes and he trained real hard. When he aged and slowed down, all he had was his chin and his will to win. He never learned how to fight, so he got pounded and struggled with guys that weren't very good and ended up not so well off. Pulling back from punches the way he did will, 98% of the time, get you hurt.
