I would say more so than AJ v Klitschko. McCall was an absolute wrecking machine who had recently knocked out Lennox Lewis. Bruno was competing in arguably the toughest era of the heavyweights and to claim a slice of the coveted green gold was a significant achievement.
We can only take the fight for what it was. Literally two mean MFs willing to go life and death and leave it all in the ring. That was what this fight had written all over it as soon as it was announced. it was a tradgedy what happened to GM but that is the dark side of the sport and this fight epitomised just that. GM was a real mean dude, the fighter with the meanest streak hed seen was how Manny Steward described him. Benn knew he was in the fight of his life and took the challenge when GM was in mosts, top 3, p4p at that time. " They brought him over to bash me up" was what Benn said at the end. I do think you have to put the sad ending out of the way here. Benn won the fight
Benn McLellan is definitely up there. It gets overlooked because of the tragic ending. Which reminds me, how about Michael Watson over the then undefeated and rampaging Nigel Benn?
McCall was never a wrecking machine even at his best in my view and he hadn’t impressed in his only defence. Of course it’s a great win but I feel more for it’s occasion and achievement than actual performance.
McCall a wrecking Machine?? He lost to ever good fighter he faced except Lewis the first time and a shot Holmes.
He was on a good run coming into the Bruno fight had beaten Seldon, Lewis and Holmes and should have had a win against Tucker. He was a nasty SoB in and out of the ring.
Against foreign opposition? 1. Laing-Duran 2. Honeyghan-Curry 3. Benn-McClellan 4. Hatton-Tszyu 5. Fury-Wlad Watt-Davis Jr, Benn-Barkley, Lewis-Ruddock, Eubank-Rocchigiani, Calzaghe-Kessler, Calzaghe-Hopkins, McKenzie-Canizales, Hamed-Kelley, Graham-Kalule, Graham-Johnson, McGuigan-Pedroza I think Eubank's three wins though against a prime Benn and prime Watson in 90 and 91 are tremendous
The best name without doubt is Roberto Duran. Many would argue he is easily a top ten p4p fighter of all time. I don't think he was in shape for the fight. Either way Laing was an enigma, certainly at his best was an incredible boxer.
Honeygun vs Curry Ragammufin vs Robinson Fury vs Klitschko Benn vs McLellan Calzaghe vs kessler McCall was a drug addict Beating a drug addict > beating klitschko? Do me a flavour
McCall holds a better win than any of Klitschko's. Klitschko was 41 and out of the ring for 2 years. Lewis was entering his prime during 'the' era of the heavyweights. Prime crack raging Atomic Bull McCall sneaks in and chins a young Klitschko.
