Just wondering what other peoples post fight plans are on Saturday, travelling down from Nottingham but and our hotel is 6 miles away from the Arena so drinking up around Euston/St Pancras before hand but no idea what were doing after. I think the North Greenwich tube station will shut at like 11:30pm and can see us having no chance of getting a taxi (for a long while at least!). Is there anywhere thats good for a night out thats within walking distance of the arena? Cheers
i wouldnt mind knowing this either, our hotel is actually walking distance from the arena (in the opposite direction to central london towards Charlton etc) wondered if any londoners knew of anywhere we could get a drink late round there.
sorry i honestly thought the o2 etc was north of the river and is obviously east. I shall ammend :good
This is what annoys me about England, trains stopping at 11.30pm... FFS Its the 21st century they should be running 24hrs a day!
the following maybe interest to some: http://www.theo2.co.uk/images/PDF/misc/transport_guide_worldchampionshipboxing_v4.pdf £10 per person to get a bus back to Kings Cross seems a rip off to me though
There is absolutely nothing surrounding the O2 arena of any interest in terms of post fight drinking/nights out. Best bet is get north of the river somehow either by tube or car then head to Old Street/Shoreditch/Camden or even the West End for late night drinks. The tube will be open til circa midnight but by the time you get out you may well have missed the last tube. There'll be plenty of "mini cabs" knocking about and so long as there is 4 of you the fare to central/East London shouldn't be more than £25 to split. If you have to stay in South London the only places in the vicinity I can think of that offer late night drinks would be Greenwich/New Cross but I don't recommend either really. There's plenty of **** going on just depends what you're into and how far you want to travel and how late you want to stay out.
yeah seems I'm staying in a decent place for getting away from the o2 (everyone else will be going in the other direction) but not so good to get a post fight drink, staying just off woolwich road (near westcombe park station) anything round there? (dont think i can be arsed with the hassle of getting back north of the river just to come back again) don't mind if its a bit dodgy i'm from Wolverhampton :yep
I was down there at a concert about two years ago and it cost £45 for a taxi back to the kings cross area This was around about 11 bells mind so could be more if its after midnight when you return
To be honest south east London is pretty desolate when it comes to nights out, I live in West so probably not the best person to ask and again it kind of depends what you're looking for! If you just want a pub that stays open late then Old Kent Road has loads but they're all full of Milwall fans. If you want a club then you could go Venue in New Cross but it's full of boys in loafers with no socks and orange skinned slags. If you want to go out clubbing then it's a whole new world but probably not one to enter into unless you want to spend the night surrounded by gurning spanners. Don't get a black cab from outside the venue, that's just asking to sit in traffic running up an enormous meter getting nowhere fast, get in a mini cab with an agreed fare or get as far away from the venue as possible in a southern direction then get a cab from there, do NOT pay £45 to go into central London it shouldn't really be more than 20/25.
Try Thomas A Becket it is open til 5.30am and it has a boxing history, every famous fighter you can think of has been in there for a pint as it used to have a gym upstairs, pretty sure even Ali has been in there. It's in Bermondsey which makes it a bit of a hole by definition but it will probably suit your purposes perfectly and as you'll be going at night you probably won't have time to peruse the area and realise you're in the London equivalent of Basra!
