Post-fight thoughts on Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather... and Manny Pacquiao

First off, I have been tipping a wide Floyd UD for weeks on here, but I didn't expect the fight to go quite the way it did.

    - SHANE MOSLEY

I suppose it's only to be expected considering he is nearing 39 years old and coming off a long period of inactivity, but Shane's stamina levels (or lack thereof) were pretty shocking to behold. He looked exhausted from about the 3rd round onwards. This can't really be attributed to anything special Floyd was doing, as all Floyd did in the first 2 rounds was flick out a few jabs then almost get knocked out. Shane's main problem in the fight was that he wasn't throwing anywhere near enough punches, and again I can't really put that down to Floyd because inferior fighters such as Ricky Hatton and Jesus Chavez (and fighters closer to Shane's level like Jose Luis Castillo and Oscar De La Hoya) all threw far, far more punches against Floyd. Shane's lack of output allowed Floyd to come onto the front foot, that never would have happened to a Mosley somewhere near his prime. Ultimately, Shane is a fighter years past his prime and although he showed a great chin and a great heart tonight, I'd call it a day if I were him. Had he been in there with a more predatory finisher, it could have been curtains for him, and that's not the way he deserves to end his career. A fantastic fighter, a fantastic career, and a really brave display, but he doesn't have it anymore.

    - FLOYD MAYWEATHER

A top performance. Probably his biggest win in terms of the name of the opponent, but I'm not sure I'd name it his best win overall. Floyd got the spaghetti legs twice in round 2, but managed to hang onto Mosley's arm like a starving orphan and make it through the round. He did the same thing when DeMarcus Corley sent him to ***** Street, and this is a very useful ability to have, to be able to tie your man up when hurt. Ray Leonard did it very effectively early in the 1st fight with Roberto Duran, a great way to avoid suffering a KD. Moving on, I did expect a wide Floyd UD but I expected Shane to make him fight off the backfoot by coming forward and throwing punches. Shane was unable to do that, and Floyd sensed this and came forward. I enjoyed this aspect of Floyd's performance because too often he is over-cautious and hangs back, it was nice to see his aggressive side. He still isn't a lethal finisher, he didn't manage to drop Shane even when Shane seemed to be wilting, but he did manage to land a lot of clean punches and really dominate some rounds, so all in all he deserves full marks for his own display. If he continues this rather lame bull**** about the drug testing, probably Paul Williams is the only man left for him to face.

    - MANNY PACQUIAO

Not in action tonight of course, but very much someone with a vested interest. On the basis of Mosley vs Mayweather, I see no reason to change my prediction, Manny can and will beat Floyd if the fight ever happens. Shane (a) did not come forward enough, (b) did not pressure Floyd and drive him to the ropes enough, (c) did not throw anywhere near enough punches, (d) got too tired too quickly. Manny Pacquiao will do better in every area I have mentioned. Shane had Floyd in dire trouble, and Manny has the speed and power to land a similar shot, and more energy and venom with which to push for a finish more effectively. Shane seemed very predictable in his punching tonight, he'd paw with a jab then throw an overhand right - Pacquiao throws many more punches from many different angles. He will land cleanly more often than Shane did for sure.

Here's hoping that fight is next on the agenda!!!

Congrats again to Floyd, and I salute Shane's heart and bravery.

Ahh, here come the haters. I was wondering when you were gonna get here. I guess you guys had to get your excuses straight. Let's see, Mosley is old, shot, and tired. Manny wins but he won't take blood tests on principal. Is that about right?

The sad part is after the drubbing that Mosely was given, that there are stupid people out there who actually think Pacquiao( a one dimensional southpaw with no defense or boxing skills) can beat Mayweather.

Mayweather will make Pacquiao look the fool. The worst one sided beating in boxing in recent memory if the fight ever happens.

Oh but wait, tough guy Pacquiao is afraid of needles!!!:lol::lol: So the fight probably won't happen.....

What would Pac do different. How will he close the distance with no reach or jab to set up his bull**** foom foom flurries. He is a counter punchers wet dream and he got his **** pushed back by Marquez. Floyd is like Marquez X 1000. He was able to basically hurt Shane with every one of his power shots. Shane is ****ing more skilled than Pacquiao. Pac cant defend his ****ing face from the lead right that we all seen damn near put Shane out. I will LOL in the dudes face that said Clottey hit harder than FLoyd.... You gumps are ****ing scared shitless and your fighter looks worse.. is the lesser fighter.. is the lesser draw and looks like the ****ing cheat. This fight will do TRIPLE what his did. You have nothing bitches. Floyd will knock that ***** the **** out after battering and walking him into shots like a ****ing cake walk.

I haven't changed my initial thought of a SD for Pac. But I think Floyd should be favored at least 60/40 in this fight.

Pac has all the attributes to beat Floyd I agree. I don't think Pac hits harder than Mosley. It was a good shot that buckled Mayweather. Clearly, Mayweather doesn't have a chin of steel. I think his power might be underrated, and his chin overrated. He was getting Mosley to think and pushing Mosley back. I thought that was incredible. Pac vs Floyd fight would be tough but terrific fight to see.

I hoped Mosely would find a way ... but Mayweather put on the performance I expected against a guy who looked average against Cotto and Mayorga. I thought the Margarito fight was an anomaly in that Margarito didn't look right either.

So no surprises. Let's get a better opponent in with Mayweather ... Williams preferred ... I think Pacquiao is brilliant but just a little bit too small.

Pacquiao won't touch Mayweather with a 10-foot barge pole after that display, and it has nothing to do with the tests.

Mosley's perforamce is disappointing to say the least. His reflexes is so slow he looked worse than Dela Hoya. He is soo stiff his arms does not bend back right after throwing jabs.

Props to Floyd, he is now P4P#1 together with Pac.

PBF beat Shane by wide UD like I said he would after he figured Shane out in the early rounds. He walked shane down like no one has before. He showed that he's nor runner like his critics claim. I hope PBF-Pac is made so PBF can put an end to the debate. Like I said before the fight offense sells tickets but defense wins championships. PBF made Shane's workrate drop and does so for everyone he fights.
