I see bars all the time advertise UFC events, I don't remember the last time a boxing event was on at a bar.

I remember when Chick fought Quinton and they were saying that fight would kill boxing.

When Oscar quit they said boxing was dead. When Floyd and Manny quit they will say boxing is dead.

Floyd and manny only have a few years left and those 2 guys are the big ppv draws for boxing, who is the next ppv big name that boxing has when they are gone?

Mayweather and pacquiao aren't saving anything, or keeping boxing alive. They fight once or twice a year. The only people who should care about ppv buys are the promoters, and individual fighters. Literally 99.9% of boxing is unaffected by Mayweather or Pacquiao.

MMA audiences comes from the WWA and WWE, so they are actually taking share of the wrestling market and hardly any from boxing. The same people that love pro wrestling are the ones attracted to MMA. So MMA can exist for a long time but they will never surpass boxing.

It's funny that you mention money. Gene Tunney was paid just over $900,000 for his rematch with Jack Dempsey. It was 36 years later before someone was paid $1,000,000 to fight. That was Floyd Patterson against Sonny Liston in 1963.

The first few UFCs only paid $60,000, and that was if you won the tournament. The winner had to go through 3-4 fights in one night in order to get that check. Champions are now getting $200,000-$400,000 routinely, and they may be getting a percentage of the ppv earnings. I know that is a far cry from boxing currently, but it is proof the sport is growing. It has only been 18 years since UFC I. I wonder what these athletes will make in another 18 years.

Funny how many die hard boxing fans come here at once just to toss insults around.

Boxing is the most corrupt sport in the world.. This generation's greater interest in MMA is justified, and someday the corruption at the top of boxing will do the sport in as MMA rises around the world.

Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, and half of the boxing champs over the last 50 years lack that warrior mentality. They pad their records with cans, hide behind their management and promotion. Look at Chavez Jr.. Hiding behind his father, WBC and its president.. Disgraceful, but a boxing tradition

Also look at the readily available tomato cans padding fighters records.. Boxing is more business than sport nowadays.

Mixed Martial Artist have a true warrior spirit that hasn't been seen since The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports.

Put one of them in boxing.

Plenty of boxers have gone to MMA.

If these guys are such "warriors" put them in boxing. We'll see how long they last when they can't grab on someone like they tryin to **** them.

Put one of those boxers in a Muay Thai ring Hendo and watch them get ****ed up.

Don't try and pretend boxing is the king of standup you twat. Western boxers never take Muay Thai fights yet Muay Thai fighters regularly stoop down to make boxing fights.

Cotto and pacquiao have been in the real wars, which MMA fighters can only dream on.
let those middleclass college boys roll on the floor, and they can keep dreaming that someday they can fight like real men.

Like I said in my earlier post; the current ATG stars of MMA are exceptions in terms of divisional dominance; many of them historically have many losses, and supremacy is always shifting. Will their new generation breed fighters better than Fedor, GSP, and Silva? Because boxing has been able to pass on the torch generationally for decade after decade over a century, with new opportunities for clear supremacy and its marketing continually presenting themselves. Boxing at its historical best has been a nationally revered sport with a broad fanbase, and MMA at its historical best is still a fringe sport with a limited market, despite recent growth in popularity. Unless the next generation of MMA fighters are out of this world and boxing's are exceptionally ****, I don't see MMA replacing boxing in popularity and recognition in the sports world.
