I was watching some highlights of the Margarito fight...sure there were several things that I saw Mosley get better under brother nazeem, but the first one I noticed is that his jab is not used as a range finder anymore but as a set up punch and to keep the distance...really beatiful jab btw....any toughts?

What got better for Mosley was the extremely limited opponent in front of him.

So limited that he beat Cotto, Cintron, Clottey, Martinez and gave Paul Williams all he could handle. And don't give me the hand-wraps argument, he may as well have had them on against Mosley, Shane would have done exactly what he did to him anyway. Loaded gloves don't make a difference if the gloves don't land.

Margo is extremely limited, and no elite fighter would struggle with a Margo fighting fairly.

And no, Cintron and Clottey are far from elite.

  5. Nazeem is the strategist brah, atleast from what i know.

Thats interesting point about mosleys jab though, he used to use it like a twitching flicker kind of motion that isn't as common anymore. I havent seen many fighters do it like that.

I dont know. I think that its a combination of Shane getting rid of that bloodsucking wife, which was going on around the time of the Cotto fight. finally getting rid of his father as his trainer, and having a guy made to order for him in Margo.

He uses it more as a range finder than anything, a set up for the power boxing.

I'm just a fan and i could be completely wrong but he seemed to maintain great distance throughout the fight, a trademark of any Hopkins/Nazeem fight.

Also, don't know if it was strategy on Nazeem's behalf but Mosley definitely made it a point to not back away from Margarito in the clinches. He actually pushed Margarito back in the clinches.

The absence of the loaded wraps make a difference in that Margo was mentally absent for that fight. How do you think he is gonna perform knowing that his career and reputation are likely over following the fight.

Cotto, Williams? What are they then?

  11. Range finder/maker. The motion of it is unusual, you try it in training and just goes to prove amazing muscle memory of Shane Mosley.

  12. I remember Bhop saying something about Nazeems plan for Shane was to use his explosive pushing strength to crack the pressure fighter early on in the fight to throw him off plan.

Margo although a sick fighter only seems to have one direction in his fights.

mosley was doing alot of rough housing hopkins style, headbutts, held to offset margo, went to the body early, seen a few hip punches too.

Shane is a fighter and always has been. He has always done those things. I didnt really see anything different in his fight with Margo, except he did more holding then I ever remember him doing. That was to breakup Margo and keep him from coming forward.

What he did was show Margarito that he wasn't intimidated and he didn't care when Margarito smiled like he wasn't hurt. Shane doesn't need improvments, he has speed and power, all he need was a better game plan and he got it.

Something key that Shane does that will ruin his chances against Mayweather is that after breaks he comes out with his hands down and stays within range, Margarito was too slow to capitalize but Floyd will land straight rights everytime.
