I 2nd Calabrese, except I agree more with the UD too.

Not surprised Ali will get about 2/3rds of the votes given the Ali myth (10 years from now he won't - even in N America). Someone said it well on here about a year ago. Ali huggers marry the fleet, CW to small HW with the slightly bigger and harder puncher post exile. Ali himself admitted he was not a big puncher. What's the post exile Ali going to do vs Wlad? Wear out a bigger man with his clinches? Pull his head down? Rope a dope like he did vs Foreman? Not if the ropes are normal, maybe if they're absurdly loose (Ali - thank you DK).

Ali lost the rubber match to Norton - Ken was robbed. Pre exile Ali might score a UD vs Wlad. LL beats either version of Ali.

Post war Ali is not "Prime"

On a serious note, I always had a hard time picturing how a Ali vs. Wladimir or Louis vs. Wladimir fight would play out.

That's a tough call just because of all the variables involved. Size does matter but tell that to Louis when he KO'd Carnera or Ali when he KO'd Forman. It would be easier to pick Ali or Louis if Wlad had been one & done like Williams was vs. Peter. Then I could picture it better................

I agree that Lewis is a bad matchup for either version of Ali :good Too much power, skill & speed. Ali never faced a fighter like Lewis either. Ask George Forman.

Ali by decision or KO, if were talking prime for prime. Wlad wouldnt be able to land anything but a few jabs. Ali ate technical boxers like Wlad for breakfast, I dont see anyway Wlad wins this fight.

People sometimes assume post-war Ali didn't have any movement left -- you should see him with his little dance-steps compared to Wlads relatively awkward ones.

Circle to Wlad's right, away from the jab and left hook, and it's party time for Ali. He still had enough reflexes to get away with a lot, and countered well. I don't see Wlad leading with the right hand, and I see Ali keeping Wlad off-balance by manipulating the distance.

He would make Wlad look very awkward.

Ah right I never read the topic properly, obviously. Post war Ali as I've aready covered, I believe a 1970-1975 Ali beats WALD inside of 10 rounds but WALD would have his moments. Ali lost to Norton and Frazier at this point and yeah I suppose WALD could inflict damage and catch Ali if both of those fighters could- but I'd still favour Ali to the tune of 8 times out of 10 even at this stage. In his prime no way in hell does Ali lose to WALD.

Anyone that says WALD could KO Ali is a ****ing idiot though. Post-Manila Ali yeah I could accept that he could be stopped due to an accumulation but before that? Nope, he was the baddest man to ever step in the ring up to then, and 3 inches and 20 lbs makes no ****ing difference when you consider the difference in skills, sorry. Not being a hatter just calling it the way I see it.

I think Ali's advantages in speed, movement, and reflexes would be the difference.

:patsch Ali never faught a technical boxer-puncher like Wlad. :deal The truth of the matter is that Ali struggled with smaller or similarly sized men (to Ali) who could jab back at him. Are you even familiar with his career? :huh If Wlad can do anything very well is pump out a hard jab, with the occaisonal half hook or massive straight right.

The chinny boxer-puncher Norton gave Ali utter fits in 3 fights - losing 2 of 3 to Ken. :tong Some even say the 2nd fight could be scored a draw - it was close. So a man who is nearly as quick as Ali (leave the mythology behind), with a harder punch will only land a few jabs :nut I hope so for Ali. If Wlad lands a flush right he will stop Ali. Foreman failed in their bout, but that fight was a semi-fix.

I think Ali would have beaten him anytime from His first career up until 1973. The Ali from the Foreman IMO wouldnt have had the movement and mobility to pull of the W. He layed on the ropes and tried out a strategy that worked.

It means that I believe , of Wlad's three losses, two of them were instances of him beating himself. This is not to say they were not all legit losses. They were.

Sanders caught him and KO'd him early. Nothing Wlad could have done about it.

But he had Purity and Brewster in the bag, but for adrenilin/pacing/flailing/general foolishness issues.

I believe he has since eliminated such behaviour from his game.

As for the embarrassing Wlad fans and their over-enthusiasm re: hypothetical Ali match-up, I refer you to my post earlier in this thread:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=606823#post606823

You will notice that I agree with most of your assessment as to how that one would play out.
