Common sense suggests that a much faster, much more skilled, more elusive, more determined and talented fighter with a cast-iron jaw, and recuperative powers second to none, who was 6"3... would humiliate Wladimir.

And to suggest Brewster and Sanders would beat most 70s HWs is ludicrous. If by "most" you include mere club fighters, then you are right. But if you are implying they would beat most "known" 70s HWs, then you are plain stupid.

Though, Brewster is a good example of how a small HW can be competitive in today's division. For someone who is overweight, with mediocre skills, he does very well for someone who is 6"2. But Frazier, Foreman, Ali, Holmes, Lyle, Norton, Young, Quarry, Shavers and co. would be far too much for him and Sanders. Hell, even guys like Bugner and Bobick would probably beat him.

    1. When did Ali ever lose to a C level fighter? Frazier had the style to give Ali fits, but he still beat him 2 out of 3 times, and he fought Norton on the downside of his career. A lumbering 6'6 fighter who runs out of gas after 5 rounds is not going to present any problems to Ali, esp. since his only chance to win the fight is to land a huge right and hope Ali doesn't get up. That's easier said than done. I saw Brock outbox Wlad for 5 rounds before getting KO'd. CALVIN BROCK FSS!

    2. I'm not biased, the division today is ****. Being bigger has proven in most cases to hinder the stamina of these fighters, I seriously doubt any of them could go 15 rounds if they had to.

There are way too many dismissive attitudes on both sides of the ledger here. In Ali's favor, you have to consider the overall caliber of fighters he defeated, and how he was able to continually pull rabbits out of the hat. He also proved he could survive and fight for 15 rounds.

In favor of WK, here's a huge heavy with a quick, stiff jab, intelligent pacing and tremendous right hand power. There's certainly no way Ali would be able to manhandle him in clinches (Frazier II being a prime example) the way he did to some opponents during the 70s.

I think this would be a great fight, Wladimir wearing out toward the end and the decision going to Ali. And I'd give Wladimir less chance if the fight were 15 rounds.

However, I think it's bogus to say that someone who withstood years of harsh Russian training would wilt because of pre-fight nonsense. Now, we know that he gets anxious when he's attacked, but that wouldn't be so much of a problem in this case. Besides, Ali's antics wouldn't be so shocking anymore, anyway (assuming the fight is held today).

You dont always have hit hard to knock somebody down, its where you hit him that matters the most.

My bad I thought you meant Burt Cooper because hes comparable to Peters size, But yeah I see what you mean. Well sometimes you get caught and that type of stuff does happen, but I fighter like Ali was rarely ever floored and he fought maybe the toughest opposition of any Heavywieght champion.

Anyone can go down and most fighters will do that sooner or later. Many of Ali's opponent were cruiserweights and much smaller than wlad's opponent who where much bigger fighters and probably hit harder. Ali had better opponents in the world level (best he can get), but wlads opponents are mostly bigger and stronger which give him bigger danger to get ko'ed one punch.

Can you imagine what happend if wlad fights Mormeck or another cruiser..he would be chicken who only destroy small boy's.
