Since the Mayweather-Canelo schooling, a ****ton of threads have been made as (or turned into) a place to argue about Floyd Mayweather Jr.' s current place in the all-time ATG rankings. However, I haven't seen many people actually post their own personal rankings. Here's a place to officially do so. Not enough time has passed since the fight for the dust to completely settle, which makes a thread like this susceptible to bias, but this isn't to be taken too seriously anyway. I don't usually make lists like these, but after taking a little time to make my own top 20, it looks something like this: 1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Willie Pep 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Muhammad Ali 5. Harry Greb 6. Sam Langford 7. Roberto Duran 8. Jack Johnson 9. Benny Leonard 10.Sugar Ray Leonard 11.Joe Louis 12.Joe Gans 13.Gene Tunney 14.Barney Ross 15.Ezzard Charles 16.Floyd Mayweather Jr. 17.Sandy Saddler 18.Jimmy Wilde 19.Tony Canzoneri 20.Archie Moore Depending on how many people post in this here thread, we might get a good idea of what this recent win might have done for Mayweather's career.
You must be on crack...Floyd should be # 1 5 time ESPY Award winner ESPY Award > Figher Of The Decade Award
In no order, my top 20 would certainly include these guys or they'd be in the conversation: Robinson Armstrong Louis Ali Pep Duran Ezzard Moore Monzon Saddler Langford Greb Fitzsimmons Johnson Hagler Benny Leonard Ray Leonard Wilde Mayweather Pacquiao Yes, both of them.
I have Mayweather at #1 This is because he never ducked anyone or handpicked any opponents. He fought the best and whoever they put in front of him like a true fighter. His biggest name opponents didn't come when they were at the tail end of their careers or before their prime but IN THEIR PRIME. I mean Mosley, Cotto, and DLH were all in their prime when Mayweather fought them. He didn't make any excuses about any potential opponents to duck fights and also never fought at a catchweight. It's difficult to not have him at #1 for these reasons.
He also had the misfortune (which turned out to be good fortune) to be fighting in the toughest era in baaxing history - every W in Mayweather's W column is against either an ATG, or at the very least a Hall of Famer A crowd pleaser to the bitter end, Our Floyd wasnt afraid of taking a risk or two if it meant the fans got their money worth at the end of the day Floyd "ATG" Mayweather - OUR Hero
Hard to rate a fighter with 45 total bouts higher than say Harry Greb with 300. Greb beat heavyweights and dominated the middleweight division or pep with 260 bouts who only lost a handful of fights before and after his peak.
1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Muhammad Ali 3. Roy Jones 4. Mike Tyson 5. Sugar Ray Leonard 6. Joe Louis 7. Marvin Hagler 8. Floyd Mayweather Jr. 9. Willie Pep 10. Thomas Hearns 11. Eric Morales 12. Juan Manuel Marquez i made it in 2min.. probably not my best list
