You know making a list is hard?

 

I'm just messin, mate. I made a thread posting my top 25 all time. It's a herculean task sorting out over a century of great fighters.

 

I wish more people on this site would attempt to make a top 25 list, you can then tell the true fans of boxing apart from the groupies.

 

How so? If you personally disagree with their opinion?

Not being able to acknowledge the highly debatable nature of ATG lists separates fans from groupies, actually. The only thing you can attempt to point out when being critical of others is potential inconsistencies, which surely you would exploit in yourself if you made a list.

 

Making a list and having debates is one thing but you've been on this site long enough to know some people rate some boxer a lot higher just because there groupies.

 

Agreed, it is highly debatable. It's really important to lay out criteria before you post a list. Such as...."I will only list fighters I have seen extensive footage of".

But there is one dead giveaway in a top 25 ATG list that will make me never take anything that poster says seriously ever again...and that is the presence of Iron Mike Tyson on said list.

Yeah it's true I know.

But I've also seen highly respectable folks have somebody in the top 10 or 20 that I HEAVILY disagree with, doesn't nullify my respect for their opinion on a whole.

Some people don't factor in losses.
Some people don't factor in anything aside from their prime run.
Some people factor in their ability to entertain.

I don't do any of those but some legit do. And I guess there could be some wild criteria that you end up listing Tyson, but yes, I totally agree.

 

I've seen him top 10 and even top 5. Some people are amazing.

Top 10 HW...... MAYBE. Used to think he was, nowadays prob wouldn't even have him there. That's as far as I go with him personally.
