Boxing telecasts were more dramatic when they focused on one big main event, or a main event and one undercard fight ... and not these six-hour, top to bottom, shows. HBO World Championship Boxing cards often had one big fight, preceded by 15 to 20 minutes of profiles and hype, interviews and ringwalks. By the time the bell rang at 20 minutes past the hour, eveyrone watching was at a fever pitch. Today, we typically get five hours of mismatches ... and by they time they're over, you just want the main event to start. Even if the main event is good, fans watching at home (if they still are) have already spent five hours bashing the event online. It's tough for the main event to dig out from under all that. Thirty years ago, when Mike Tyson went to prison, Don King would often stage big cards with four or five main event-quality title fights. Those were great. But Don King isn't Don King anymore. And Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum never have put that much effort into their undercards. Since we aren't getting five or six hours of quality fights, it really isn't necessary to show these cards from the first bout to the last.
Prime ODLH and prime Mosley had a great chance of beating pac and floyd at 147. if RJJ retired after Ruiz he’d be ranked top 10ATG possibly top 5 Roach was not as good as he is made out to be but Khan would have had a way better career if he stayed with him.
There's no such thing as a lucky punch. Too many people scream "robbery" over close fights. There's too many haters in boxing forums.
Usyk is the greatest living human being and anyone who speaks ill of him has obviously been baptized in demon urine
Sonny Liston threw the fights against Ali as he wanted to pass the torch on to the future of boxing. David Tua would have a decent chance to beat Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield in the late 90s. Errol Spence Jr gets demolished by Terrance Crawford. Floyd Mayweather would've beaten Manny Pacquiao regardless of what year they fought. Marvin Hagler beat SRL and deserved an immediate rematch.
Cotto was subdued in the Mayweather fight. Manny threw the fourth fight vs Marquez. Without Manny there is no roach, without roach there ain't no Manny. Foreman hit just as hard as wilder. He split MMS mouth piece in half. Nate Campbell was gonna win both Peden fights if the ref(s) didn't stop it HBO lies about fighters ages (see Luis Ortiz or Guillermo Rigondeaux among others) Mayorga was on the end of too many losses to ever be a hero in his native country or hometown. The fans destroyed Johnny Ruiz's image. Roy Jones James toney was the fight of the century, not pac- money Oscar Mosley, Tito Vargas were the greatest fights of the year.
My hot take is the best young lightweight prospect is not from USA, he's from Belarus and his name is Dzmitry Asenau. He was an elite amateur who boasts wins over Andy Cruz, Lazaro Alvarez, Murodjon Akhmadaliev x2, Shakhobidin Zoirov, Albert Batyrgaziev, Sofiane Oumiha, Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov. He made his pro debut very under the radar at the weekend. This content is protected
Pacquiao's 8th division title is bull****. On the flipside, he couldve easily won a belt in those 2 divisions he skipped early in his career.
Chris John won against JMM fair and square. There was never a controversy. Mikey Garcia did duck Lomachenko. Oscar De La Hoya should have won against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Spence is no match to Terence Crawford
Yep, Wilder was much slower than his usual self and almost managed to take Fury's head off when he caught Fury coming in
1. Lineage in modern boxing is even less worth as a single main alphabet belt, because of the times it has been broken, the historical significance being lost, and the way it's milked by modern fighters. 2. Ken Norton won all 3 Ali fights, at most Ali could claim a draw in fight #2. Maybe not really a hot take, knowing Ali's own perspective on the matter, but towards fans in general.
