SD dictated the whole fight constantly going forward and backing GGG up. The stat punches seemed way off because SD seemed to throw many combinations and landing 10x more than GGG did. I don't think it was as close as people say it was. The fans in attendance should tell you who won and remember this was a GGG crowd.

I would go easier than that on Derev, personally.

As I said in a post above, and as Big Ukrainian confirmed via the Derev post-fight interview, Derev had to radically alter his gameplan after he got cut and he understood his initial plan wasn't going to get it done.

So instead of going like 50mph (as he planned), he maxed out the gas pedal and was going like 100 mph the whole fight. That takes a huge amount of energy, not to mention that the improvised style saw him eating a lot of punches he might not have taken otherwise.

I just think he got worn out, rather than he didn't take advantage of the opportunities. Honestly, that's the most aggressive I have ever seen anyone fight GGG except perhaps Lemieux. I mean Derev was all over GGG, with some very hard shots. He laid it all out there.

Losing (or winning, depending on your view) a close fight to a sure-fire, first-ballot Hall of Famer like GGG is no letdown. Especially when you are panicking after the 2nd round because your eyelid got blown up and the bout could be stopped at any moment.

UPDATE: Word is out that GGG was ill before the bout.

If that is true, I will change my assessment of where GGG is at in his career (and my thoughts on his performance tonight).

As someone who loves Golovkin, I hope he was sick. If he was not sick, then the decline is very real and progressing.

    This.

I had it 114-113 for Derevyanchenko as well, but there were some close rounds and one round scored differently on my card would give it to GGG by a point.

    Initially thought:
    115-112 GGG
    After rewatching:
116-111 GGG that’s the best I can give to SD.
There is no room even for a draw.
SD did a great job, but GGG was better. Quite a lot of flashy work from SD which got blocked by GGG.

I don't know if it is true, but during his ringwalk ggg looked very strange. I was thinking myself, he can't be nervous or he even looked afraid of the situation. No excuses for ggg, but imo he looked very strange, no smiling like usual, heavy sweating and looked a little bit sick...
But dervechenko is for me clearly a top fighter and deserves a rematch
