Rounds 1 , 2 for Golovkin had the jab working beautifully

Round 3 Jacobs for the power punches

Round 4 Golovkin gets the knock down

Round 5 Golovkin just threw more and landed more

    Round 6 , 7 , 8 , Jacobs power punches clearly won him these 3 rounds .

Round 9 - this round is pivotal in the fight , Golovkin using some rough house tactics with good power punches takes the round

Round 10 and 11 to Jacobs for power punches

Round 12 - Golovkin took this round to win the fight by one point 114-113

This fight was won by Golovkin's excellent jab and the knockdown , without the knock down the fight would have been a draw.

Jacobs reach , fast hands , power and south-paw stance gave GGG all he could handle .

~ ~ ~ ~ I would like to know what Jacobs really weighed coming through the ropes . Jacobs looked at least 10 lbs heavier than GGG .

Joe Cortez has made the suggestion that the judges should have elevated seats to better see punches that land - an interesting observation and probably accurate .

I scored the fight by watching it 3 times with the sound off . The rounds Jacobs won were very clear . The closest round to me was round 9

~~ Is GGG declining in boxing ability ? Based on tonights performance you really can't say he is because he beat a bigger , faster , younger man . I thought at times he could have thrown more combinations when he was in close but I think Jacobs sheer size and speed made him cautious .

It was an excellent , high level fight :)

I thought it was a Jacobs round. I will have to re watch it later as well.

McGrain, That is pushing it by giving ever close round to Jacobs. GGG won round 2, and 12.

    GGG out landed Jacobs 231 - 175 with a 10-8 round.

With the aid of punch stats:

    Obviously, I don't think so.

Three people on this page alone agree with me.

I didn't score it and I just watched it on a poor link that was in a constant state of lag, but I got the sense that Jacobs won by 2 rounds. I have to watch it again.

Did you see the punch stats in these rounds? GGG's jab in most of the rounds and his 10-8 round makes it tough for him to do better than a draw. Also, in close rounds its okay to give a 10-10 round.

Personally I prefer live scoring better. Scoring after the fight tends to be more flexible.

Yes. I don't score by punchstats.

Look, I know Golovkin is one of your favourites so you see a scorecard that doesn't jive and you freak out; but you have to accept that around a third saw it differently to you. There's nothing odd about this - it happens all the time. Personally, despite having about the widest scorecard for Jacobs i've seen, I don't consider it a robbery or anything like. Loads of tight, difficult rounds.

When I score fights, I try to score in keeping with the rules and culture of the time. Both fighters are aware before the fight that drawn rounds are very, very, very, very rare in America at this time.

I disagree that it's okay, personally. I think you should score the fight as it will be scored by the judges.

    I hate it.

    ROUND1: 10-9 GGG
    ROUND2: 9-10 Jacobs
    ROUND3: 10-9 GGG (close)
    ROUND4: 10-8 GGG
    ROUND5: 10-9 GGG
    ROUND6: 9-10 Jacobs
    ROUND7: 9-10 Jacobs (close)
    ROUND8: 10-9 GGG
ROUND9: 10-9 GGG (close, but got Jacobs hurt at the end)
    ROUND10: 9-10 Jacobs
    ROUND11: 9-10 Jacobs
    ROUND12: 10-9 GGG

    115-112 GGG

All in all had Gennady winning in an underwhelming performance. GGG had Jacobs hurt on several occasions, landed the jab at will, but did not throw body punches and Jacobs was physically stronger (i think this is also the reason for lack of body attack, because he couldn't get in a position to fire). Judging by the last two fights, Golovkin is slowing down and is about to lose soon. I believe Oscar and Canelo will finally get brave and make the fight in September.
